Star Wars Galaxies - Shakey

Post by Ras »

Hello,

In Star WArs galaxies I find that the view snaps back to center whenever the TrackIR can't quite see the dot. This resultts in rapid stutterng back and forth when I am looking around the edges. Is there anyway to stop this from happening? Perhaps a setting I am missing?

Thanks for the help!

I will mention this to our programmers, but for the time being i'd suggest increasing the yaw speed for the profile you're using (so you won't need to move so far to get to the edges. Thus the dot won't disappear).

Please let me know how this works for you, sir.

Hello,

Thanks for the reply. I did test with this a little, however I find that its just too quirky in its current state. Basically I have determined that though the situation is most prevelant on the edges, it also happens while looking only slightly off center. Additionally, an easy way of replicating the effect I am experiencing is to cover the dot with your hand. Once you do this the screen instantly reverts to the center instead of remaining where it last was. So the stuttering may be Galxies fighting with the signal comming form the TrackIR driver. I hope this can be resolved as the effect is very distracting and I have had to resort to disabling the TrackIR and using a standard padlock mode.

Thanks

Eek!

Well, two things for your consideration, sir.

1-our programmers mentioned that the instant centering issue has come up in this thread as well : http://forums.naturalpoint.com/cgi-bin/ ... 4&t=000407& p=2#000047
And they've worked to resolve it by doubling the delay before view is recentered. (effectively from 1.5 seconds to 3 seconds)

2- It's more likely that another light source is competing with your dot. This might be resolvable by clicking "Settings..." in the Tracking window, and setting the "preferred object size (pixels)" to be exactly the size of your dot while it's being tracked.

If this is the source of the issue, raising the "light filtering" in that same window may also help to kill off any competing light source.

-
Please let me know if this helps.
May I ask what version of our software you're using? Also, could you send me a screen shot of your tracking window when this happens?

Hello,

That forum post you cited does sound like the same thing. However, I am running the 3.13 software version as I am a TrackIR 2 user. Should I upgrade my software to the latest version anyway?

As requested I have sent a screenshot of my tracking window to the naturalpoint support mailbox to your attention. As you'll see there are no other competing light sources.

Thanks for your help.

I will load up my account again and see if this is a new issue or not. Please give me a few days to do this. Thank you.

Hello Ras,

I still play SWG too. The problems you mentioned occured to me also when using my TrackIR3 pro (or even my TrackIR2 pro, don't know anymore, that was too long ago).

Look at this thread where I described my workaround for CRC, a racing game, where similar problems occured. I am sure that these actions solved my SWG problems, too (although I had been using a TrackIR3 pro then).

Try to avoid additional light soures, direct or indirekt, like sun reflections etc.
