New TrackIR 3 woes

Post by JohnC »

Hi everyone, I am having a slight problem with my new TrackIR 3 Pro.

My system is Nvidia NForce 2, Ath XP3200, 1 GB OCZ DDR400 ram, USB2, Win XP Pro with SP 1, MS Intellimouse Explorer, Saitek X45.

I came home last night and installed the software as stated, rebooted, plugged in the TrackIR and hey presto, it was tracking the dot on my mic. No problem so far. I next installed Il 2 AEP (just purchaced) and rebooted.

Now the strage part, TrackIR stopped working. I have tried all the uninstalling and reinstalling, the new 3.10 drivers, system restore, and finally as it was needing it I reinstalled XP and service pack 1.

I still have the same problem, TrackIR installs OK, the green light come on momentarily then goes off (is this what its meant to do?) and when I next go into the setup for TrackIR I have no black camera screen visable.

I checked device manager and it looks fine, TrackIR shows up as being OK.

I finally this morning tried to set up TrackIR on my GF's pc, same OS but a pentium 4, same problem.

I then took it round to my friends, same problem.

It is looking like the unit might be faulty, perhaps, but it is strange it worked for a minute when I first installed it on my own machine.

My serial number is 17106.

Any help would be appreciated.

John

Update - phoned retailer and they said that I should install a MS USB patch. Did this and no better. I have also noticed that when I change the camera threshold in tracking that I some times get a black screen with a green line and that the green light comes on briefly.

When moving the camera threshold I also sometimes get this error.

AppName: naturalpoint.exe AppVer: 3.0.3.0 ModName: cameradll.dll

Sounds like you got a bum unit. If your dot is visible to the unit, the TrackIR green light should stay on after you start up the software. You should also see your dot moving around on the motions pager (when enabled)and tracking page (all the time).

If you are not, then it is more than likely a bad unit.

Seeing as how you tried a full format and tried it on other computers, I will bet my money it is a bad unit.

Call them and setup an exchange.

JohnC,

This sounds rather odd, with the error message that you are getting.

Please give me a call so we can confirm what may be the problem.

Hi Wayne, unfortunately I'm from the UK so a call would be rather expensive, perhaps I could call from work. I have spoken to Bob from the retailer, rcsimulations, and he thinks the unit must be faulty. I have tried everything I can think of and nothing helps so I will send the unit back and try another one.

Hmm seems like this happened to me once so far. Do you get a thin green vertical line across the whole page while looking at the tracking page?

Drone

All I did was unplug the usb connetor and replug it in and it started tracting again...

JohnC,

Maybe I can help through e-mail then?

Would it be possible to "Print Screen" the message that would help enormously?

Drone,

After you have unplugged the unit and reconnected you say that the problem resolves itself?
