Installing trackIR in XPpro
Re: Installing trackIR in XPpro
Ok, don't want to sound overly optimistic, but on another board (Frugal's world) where he had done a review of the trackir, I asked if he had any ideas. He said there should be a exusbw2k.inf file in your Windows INF folder and maybe by pointing the install to that file it would work. Sounds like a plan, but I have no such file and asked him to forward it to me. If he does, I'll give it a shot and let you know.
Knew I shouldn't have been optimistic! I haven't received the file yet, but I installed the trackir on another computer (WinME) and it worked fine. There was no .inf file in it, or anyplace else on my computer. I don't know if you have to install on WinXP to have the software install this .inf or it's not the correct .inf.
HEY trackir people... how about posting some info on this problem? Like you are aware of it, working on it, or at least "tough nuts, you guys are stuck"???

Re: Installing trackIR in XPpro
Ok got it working under WinXP, however, it went the HARD way. I tried to add a bootable partition with Partionmagic... well, it was "magic" alright! It hung halfway thru and after doing a reboot, I had no operating system AT ALL! During the reinstall, I noticed that my motherboard, although supporting USB 2.0, didn't have the correct drivers/whatever, so I did that. After that, I installed trackir and it works! Doubt this will be much help to you all who were hoping for a quick fix (as was I), but I thought I would pass it on.

Re: Installing trackIR in XPpro
So how can I disable USB 2.0 to see if this is the problem?
Re: Installing trackIR in XPpro
Actually Snake, what I did was enable the 2.0 drivers, not disable them, so I have no idea. Maybe it was a fluke on the reinstall, I dunno, but playing around with this thing in IL2 FB is a blast (but it does take a lot of adjusting to as well). Hope you get it working.

It's frustrating that it works on my 1.3 Celeron/Via/XP system but not the 2.6/Intel/XP system.

Re: Installing trackIR in XPpro
I'm having the old XP installation problems, Discovers that a USB device is attached (doesn't state what it is, similar to Snake's issues by the look of it).
The Found new hardware wizard finishes with "Cannot Install this hardware", the HW was not installed beciase the wizard cannot find the necessary software.
I did install the SW before plugging the device in.
I'm also running Simkits, and Goflight modules on the same computer. Unplugged them to reduce the likelihood of conflicts.
TrackIR is directly plugged into the PC. Running a P1.4.
I'm off to find which MB I've got in the system, its been a while since I've had to worry about that...
Any clues pointers or log files I should be looking at?

Re: Installing trackIR in XPpro
Should add, I've tried both the drivers that came with the device and the 2.12 beta.

One thing of interest I did find while poking around was a file called setupapi.log under c:\windows.
It provided the following, so it looks like the file isn't being copied or registered?
[SetupAPI Log]

Re: Installing trackIR in XPpro
Gave up on trying to find the 'right' answer. Formatted disk and reinstalled XP, and can now see TrackIR. Must be a exception than either XP and the USB driver aren't handing nicely.
Re: Installing trackIR in XPpro
Yep, the good ol' reformat/reinstall scenario... amazing how that "fixes" the problem (thanks a bunch MS). But I hate to recommend it just in case it doesn't fix things.
