Installing trackIR in XPpro
Re: Installing trackIR in XPpro
Well part of my upgrade to my new P4 system was reinstall of XP, it wasn't a complete reformat install but it did seem to fix other problems, I guess it may have created this Track IR one. I hate reformating! I'd probably wait to get a whole new hard drive than backup all 20 gigs of stuf on my hard drive just to get Track IR working.

Guys-
For the trackIR to work under XP, it looks like you need to be logged in with an account that has Administrator settings. I'll provide more information as I have it, but try that, and let me know if it works.

Thanks for your continued help! I tried installing on my normal account which is an adimnistrator then I enter safe mode and tried the "Adiminstrator" account there, both still only detect it as a "USB Device."

Yeah, I don't think it is an admin issue either. Like it has been reported, you get a "USB device" rather than the specific ID (which I did finally get after a reformat/reinstall). Somehow, XP isn't recognizing what the device really is (other than USB). Weird!
Re: Installing trackIR in XPpro
I cured the same problem once by reverting the system to a restore point before the first driver installation.
However it was a special case then, because the device worked until I installed an additional PCI USB 2.0 Card.
I could install the device without problems afterwards. Weird!

Re: Installing trackIR in XPpro
I'm still guessing it has someting to do with USB 2.0 Not being able to use my TrackIR is depressing
Re: Installing trackIR in XPpro
Well I finally have my TrackIR working. It took a complete reinstall of XP I wish we knew why this problem occurs so there would be an easier fix.

Snake-
Glad that you got it working! I wish that your issue was less of a mystery to us.
If it's any consolation, I remember that I once had to re-install XP to get my old Saitek X-36 working.

Hehe, don't mention the X-36, it brings back bad memories. I never had to reinstall an OS for one, but I did have 5 of them in about 2 1/2 years (they kept on breaking ) Good thing they were all under warranty!

Re: Installing trackIR in XPpro
Well I'm a touch depressed, It was working, and now I'm getting the old unknown USB device, really reluctant to reinstall XP again, given the time it takes to get everything up and running.
any pointers or info I can collect to help debug this?
Cheers
