Trouble with CFS3

Post by Saint Jay »

Hi,

Just got my TrackIR 3 pro w/ vector expansion. It seems to work fine, but I can't get it to work in CFS3. Am I missing a step?

I installed software version 4.0.0.20, and activated the vector expansion.

Vector works in FS2004; 2DOF works in IL2/AEP/PF,and BOB; but no luck in CFS3. I have the TrackIR software running; the green LED is on, but not the blue, even after I start CFS3 and begin flying. If I alt-tab back to the TrackIR software after I start CFS3, the Current Game is still "None".

Windows XP Pro SP2
Saitek X45
CFS3 v3.1a installed to E:\CFS3
Lots of addons to CFS3 -- Winding Man's scenery, Fox effects, AvHistory planes
I was using the 3.1 no-cd patch; I tried going back to the original exe and uninstalling and re-installing the TrackIR software, but that didn't help

Any ideas, or things to check or try? Are any files installed to the CFS3 directory?

Thanks,
Jay

A little more information:
TrackIR Serial # 25210

I've also tried reinstalling CFS3 -- I've tried with both stock 3.0 and stock 3.1 -- no luck. (Installed CFS3, then re-installed TrackIR 4.0.0.20.)

I have the same problem. With the 4.0.0.20 drivers I cannot get TrackIR/Vector to work in CFS3. It worked fine with a previous version, 4.0.0.18 I think. Unfortunately I had to do a clean install of my OS, and by the time I got around to re-installing CFS3 this was the only version available. It works perfectly in all my IL2 games, in 2DOF of course, but not with CFS3. It simply does not recognise the game is installed on my PC. I don't have any extras installed in my CFS3 folder. Have installed and re-installed both Vector and CFS3 several times but no luck:-( Any ideas?

One other point. With most products requiring drivers, graphics cards and sound cards for example, there is the option to download and re-install a previous version should one encounter problems with the latest set. Why is this not the case here? Might be an idea to make previous versions available on site too.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the swift response Wayne,

Just like to say I love TrackIR/Vector, it is simply superb. Hope you can get to the bottom of this soon, but it won't change my mind about NP and the product if you can't:-)
Going on holiday for two weeks tomorrow and the most difficult part is having to leave my computer behind. I'm flying, but I'm not doing the flying:-( At least not for two weeks.

Many thanks.

Just downloaded and installed the version 4.0.021 software. Works perfectly, as did the previous version, in IL2, IL2FB, IL2FB+AEP, etc., But CFS3 is still not being recognised. Below find a cut and paste of the install log, although I can't imagine that this is the problem as IL2 works fine, but:-)

1-4-2005
Install Log Entry Begin (Installation):
DirectX version : 09
DirectX version is okay
OS = Win 2K/XP
Component USB from 0 to 1
Component APP from 0 to 1
Component DOCS from 0 to 1
Component MSFS2002 from 0 to 0
Component PROFILES from 0 to 1
Install USB Drivers for 2K/XP
ReInstallUSBDevices loaded setuphlp.DLL :
Error = 0
RegisterDriverINF UpdateDriver4PnP Failed! :
USB\VID_131D&PID_0155 AND C:\Program Files\NaturalPoint\TrackIR4\Drivers\NPUSB3.inf
Error = 183
SetupCopyOEMInfA Called

TrackIR disconnected during update. Connected after reboot, probably not necessary but something I do regardless.

Anyway, as stated in a previous post, I'm away in the next day or so, so if I don't reply to a post it is because of this and not that I'm ignoring anyone.

Thanks in advance.

Yep, same for me, version 4.0.0.18 works fine in CFS3, all versions thereafter (till the current 4.0.0.21) do not (

This is odd. I am using 4.0.021 without problem-- except for the cross hair alignment issue. The crosshairs drift from proper alignment whenever there is TrackIR movement from the default position. This does not occur in the "no cockpit" view , but that is not flying in a sim. I do not want to fly as Wonder Woman.

There must be a cure for the alignment issue, but admittedly that is only an issue if you can get TrackIR to run at all!

Hi, has there been any word on this issue? I upgraded to a TrackIR 3 from TrackIR 2 and installed the latest 4.0.0.021 software off the site and it does not work with CFS 3 at all; disappointing as that is one of the main features that encouraged me to upgrade to a TIR3. All else seems to be working (PF, FS2004 etc). Are the older drivers such as 4.0.0.018 that do appear to work with CFS 3 available anywhere?
