Computer freezing.

Post by Dipper »

Got my TrackIR3Pro a few days agoo, and I have had nothing but troubles

I have had problems to get vector to work, and have now given up on vector to try to use dot only. Its not hopeles with dot, even tho the movement of the dot is very limited, but with aggressive settings I can check 6.

Now the biggest problem is that my computer has started to freeze since I got TIR.

I can play some times 10min, some times an hour, but the game will freeze

I tried to disconect unit, but it did not help. Only thing that gives me controll of computer is reset button. (ctrl-alt-del will not work.)

I hope some one can give this a look.
I have also posted about my problem on the aces high game site.

(btw, if you have not tried to play Aces High, do it now, cos its a great game. You can play it 2 weeks for free, without giving out any creditcard info.)

Here is a link to my DXDiag log:

Dipper,

Thanks for the dxlog, I will take a look at this.

Here is what I would like you to do....

1) Un-install all your software after disconnecting TrackIR from your USB ports.

2) Navigate to your C:\Program Files\... and delete the NaturalPoint folder prior to any re-install.

3) Install the newest 4.021 software and try your unit prior to activating Vector, to see if any lockups occur.

4) If everything is okay at this point, please e-mail me and I will send you the Vector codes to ensure that they are not corrupt through your e-mail system.

I will try the uninstall / delete / install thing.

One point I want to note !

When I installed TIR I used one USB port but later decided to switch to a different port.

At that point XP does a second P&P installation, as XP seems to do when a device is connected to a different USB port.

I wonder if this might be the cause for the hangups?

The "new" usb port is in a hub.

I report back how it goes.

Well, it did NOT help

I de-installed, deleted folder and installed. Even re-installed AH2.

I can play one or two games, and then the computer hangs.

Sound is in a loop, and now I can see that the Track IR device is on with all leds green, red and blue, after I pressed the reset button and booted windows. Should not those leds be off, as I have not started TrackIR software yet?

Any way I hope they get this fixed, I dont know how good its for my PC to be reseted 5-6 times a day

Dipper if the reset button is used to restart your PC then the temp files that XP uses for house keeping ect is not cleared, so that when XP restarts it can revert to the state it was in when the reboot happened. It is not unknown for devices to become activated after a Hard Restart.

The best thing I can sugest is that if you have had to do a Hard Reset is to do a normal restart under windows this should clear the pointers in XP.

Whilst scanning through your DXDiag I notice that it is reporting 3 joysticks in use a MS Force FeedBack, a generic 6 button and a Logitech Freedom 2.4. This can cause some slowdowns and even locks as the devices are fighting for the same priveleges (even though they are on different prioraties), pluss all three use different drivers and they all access DirectInput at the same time and can cause lockups.

I would also sugest lowering your HardWare Acceleration for your Audigy 2ZS one notch. The Audigy 2ZS and your graphics card both are system hogs and the graphics card always has system priority so the Audigy drivers can go into a loop sulking (crashed)

Please check your ICQ settings under the HardWare Manager to see if they are sharing the same ICQ. If so uninstall the Audigy drivers and move the Audigy to a different PCI slot (the 3rd from bottom is recomended by Creative).

One other thing to look at is your power supply and what you have running off it. If you are running all the joysticks that DXDiag is reporting as connected there is a good posability that you do not have enough power from your power supply and TIR is the step too far so to say.

Drop me a line if you need more help.

Thank You Barred, I will try your suggestions.

The 6 button joystick is a game port joystick I use for rudder pedals.

I will disconnect all but one to test if it helps.
I also will lower the soundcard acceleration.

In the "device manager" in the "recource by type" / "irq" no device seems to share a irq, so I dont think I need to move the sound card?

I have a 400w power suply that should be ok for my setup.

I will report back how it works out.

Thank you.

Have played for maybe 1 hour 3 sorties and no hangups as yet. Lets hope the problem with freezing is ower.

Only adjustment I did now was setting the sound acceleration one notch down in DX.

I will report back if my PC freezes or not in a few days.

Lets hope this did the trick

Thx

Played for 4 hours, and no hangups, so I guess its safe to say the DirectX sound acceleration setting was the problem

Strange that it started when I got my track ir ?

Anyway, thx a lot for the help Barred
