AMD64 Service Pack 2 Windows XP-home Problems

Post by DEY_THOR_USA »

Here is my system specs:

Gigabyte 939 Motherboard GA-K8F-9
nforce4-4x chipset
AMD64 3200+
EVGA Geforce 6600 GT 128MB
80 MB ATA100 HD
200MB SATA 133 HD
Windows XP Home

The software installs ok, but when I plug in the Hardware they system begins to install then I get the blue screen(for a sec) and the computer restarts. Choosing cancel, using the disk to install drivers, restarting after software install does not work. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,

Thor

I had some similar problems with my AMD64 when I set it up. Here are some of the causes of my blue screens.

Memory timings, I was using top of the line CORSAIR rated at 2-2-2-5. Come to find out the AMD64s try to control the memory speed even faster so I had to turn them down just a bit. Also with memory the default voltage was not enough. Once I turned it up all the way 2.8V that stopped 90% of the crashes, the memory timing solved the rest.

You might want to look at your power supply, I read many posts where the AMD motherboards are extremely sensitive and if you have an older supply or one that is minimum requirements as far as watts then that could be a problem too. Best bet it to scour the Gigabyte forums, most likely many other people have had the problem too. The ABIT forums were great help for me.

ABIT AV8 939
1 GB Corsair XLL mem
AMD 3500+
NVIDIA 6800GT
Two 80GB SATA (RAID 0)
ANTEC True 480W power supply

Just ran into the same thing. I built a new system and had a powered USB hub plugged in. When I plugged in the TrackIR it started to install then crashed. I removed the hub and connected the track IR directly to the USB port on the PC and it solved the problem. I believe they recommend the direct connection anyway.
