Problems with GTR & TrackIR

Post by mjonzo »

Does anybody have a nicely setup trackIR profile i can have a copy of to use with GTR ?

or secondly, does anyone know of any issues of using it and a DFP wheel, as mine has started to freak out in online racing since adding the new wheel at the end of last week. (it was fine before). I have trackIR centre-ing mapped to the 'x' key on the wheel.
The TRackIR seems twitchy now (online) and during last nights online race, the view kept locking hard left when i was cornering which was chaos as you can imagine, It effectively ruined my race after happening 3 times. This has now occured on two different tracks. The other weird thing is when i took off the track hat, the camera still seemed to detect the odd head movement of mine?...would my brushed steel glasses frames be having an adverse affect?

I have the profile using 'vector' but presume as i only use it to look left & right, i could just use 'dot' (its the TrackIR3 with vector6dof).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The other thing i cant work out is, shouldnt there be some kind of calibration software with it?...ie i select 'tracking' on the options tab and see my 3 dots on the trackhat in the little green screen but they are always off centre and to the left even when i'm sitting directly in front of the camera (ontop of my monitor). I cant find anyway of getting it central and so that when i look to one direction that the green dots only go as far as the tracking windows edges. Am i missing something here? It seems to me that as its placing my head to the left and one side that would mean hardly any left head turn would result in a wide on screen left, whilst to look right i would have to almost turn my head fully to the right. How do i calibrate it ?
Sorry to Natural point but i found the manual a bit lame for first time installers.

Hi Mjonzo. If you look at the following page you will see my slow IL2 setup, http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/04- ... files.html it also works in GTR/L.

For the centring problem I map a button with in the TIR software :- select your profile and click edit and in Hotkeys you can select a button on your wheel. Then fireup GTR and in game (I think) you have a 'Centre TIR' button select the same button that you used in the TIR software.

As for the hard locks to the left I get that in both GTR and GTL and I uses a Momo Force wheel so I think it is down to Logitech and their drivers or Simbin.

For your last point
Have a look at these threads http://forums.naturalpoint.com/cgi-bin/ ... 2;t=000114 and http://forums.naturalpoint.com/cgi-bin/ ... #000002see if that helps if not post back and I will see what I can do.

Good Luck

Thanks for the pointers barred, i did grab your profiles yesterday but not had a chance to try them yet.

Still confused with this statement from the other posts you directed me to:

"Adjust the sensor so that all three green blips in the tracking view is central and that the ingame head is moving to it's extreems whilst you are sitting in your normal 'neutral position'. "

How do i adjust it?...do you mean physically pick up the camera and move it say to the left on my monitor so that the 3 green dots are now central?....seems odd being that i am already sitting centrally right in front of it....thats why i was expecting some calibration tool. Obviously i cant move myself to the left as i wouldnt be in front of the monitor!

Also, sorry in case you misunderstood me, when i said it goes 'hard left' in GTR, i meant the view locks hard left not the steering wheel or car...ie i approach a curve or chicane and as i glance left to see the apex, the view goes full left and locks/stays there with me looking out the side window...chaos ensues obviously.
thanks in advance.

Sorry about the miss understanding Mjonzo

I mean turn the camera as it is on a swivle. The best way of doing this if possible is to have someone else turn the camera if it is out of arms reach whilst you are sitting in your normal 'neutral' position otherwise it is a matter of small amounts untill it is right.

The other thing that you can do is cover the TrackHat's tracking or use a differnet cap and move it further back on your head so that the reflectors are directly facing the camera.

The locking to the left (or right) is normally associated with one of the dots going out of the camers range.

TIR at first is not the easiest of gadgets to set up and it really does depend on some trial and error to get the optimum position for you. But once you do get it setup it really transforms gaming. Please keep comming back untill you have it as you need it and I will see what I can do.

ah,of course, forgot i can swivel the thing on its stand ! Just thought there was some calibration needed being that i'm sat right in front of it...wonder why it shows me to the left of it? I did check that it was pointing straight at me.
I think i'm within the parameters of its site-ing position so that shouldn't be the problem.
Okay, thanks alot for your help barred, will give it a go and report back, hopefully positively :-)

One other thing you may be able to advise on, i have a profile from someone to use in Battle of Britain 2 W.O.V which everyone has raved about but when i tried it no matter which way i looked, the view constantly flicked via a view looking straight down at my cockpit seat then onto the required view....this rapidly gave me a headache/eye strain. Which axis/option should i alter to negate the 'look down'? (Of course this could be a result of the camera not being centre as discussed above so will check again this eve).
cheers

Mark this is a shot in the dark as I do not have BOB 2WoV (yet) sometimes the profile from one version of the software to the next do not fully work. I know this should not happen but I have had it happen to me.

If find a profile you like you can still give that one a try in another game (I use my IL2 profile in all my TIR enabled games)

Good luck

Hey Barred, thought i'd check back in and let you know how i got on.
I re-aligned the camera to get my 3 dots central as you mentioned...all dandy thanks.

Do you use your GTR profile to look up & down and zoom forwards as well?...i dont really see how you'd need that when racing??

Re: BoBII, i tried your slowed down IL2 profile first but that didnt work at all well in game..it really struggled to look smoothly and wouldnt look hard left or right, so ditched that.
Tried your normal IL2 profile and it worked the best out of any i've tried so far, so will give that a go and tweak it slightly as needed until i get the hang of it. Much obliged mate.
(ps...you should really get your hands on Bob2...the aerial battles with 200+ aircraft in the sky are just awesome)

No problem Mark I am just glads that you have gotten it working all right

I do use the full 6 DOF in GTR with a modified plr file so that I can see further back. Do a find in your plr file for 'TrackIR' and paste this over the TIR section

TrackIR Pitch Down Limit="-0.15000" // Min: -1.00, Max: 0, Default: -0.15
TrackIR Pitch Up Limit="0.05000" // Min: 0, Max: 1.00, Default: 0.05
TrackIR Yaw Left Limit="-0.80000" // Min: -1.00, Max: 0, Default: -0.40
TrackIR Yaw Right Limit="0.80000" // Min: 0.00, Max: 1.00, Default: 0.40
TrackIR Roll Left Limit="-0.07500" // Min: -1.00, Max: 0.00, Default: -0.075
TrackIR Roll Right Limit="0.07500" // Min: 0.00, Max: 1.00, Default: 0.075
TrackIR Move Left Limit="-0.05000" // Min: -1.00, Max: 0.00, Default: -0.05
TrackIR Move Right Limit="0.05000" // Min: 0.00, Max: 1.00, Default: 0.05
TrackIR Move Down Limit="-0.05000" // Min: -1.00, Max: 0.00, Default: -0.05
TrackIR Move Up Limit="0.03000" // Min: 0.00, Max: 1.00, Default: 0.03
TrackIR Move Forward Limit="-0.25000" // Min: -1.00, Max: 0.00, Default: -0.25
TrackIR Move Back Limit="0.25000" // Min: 0.00, Max: 1.00, Default: 0.25

It also works in GT Legends and the Vector is even more useful as there is more bumper to bumper racing than in GTR and really brings TIR really is in it's element. Try the demo from http://www.gt-legends.com/ and there is a video thread at http://forum.rscnet.org/forumdisplay.php?f=916

I had the original BOB and thoroughly enjoyed it. BoB2 is on my to buy list as I collect flight sims though I do not always have the time to fly them as much as I would like these days.

Enjoy your TIR and if you have any other problems you know where to come

Cheers Barred, i'll give that plr file a tweak with your settings and see how i find it.

GTL was already pre-ordered...should have it by now if the layzee postman gets his finger out !
and i know just what you mean by 'finding the time to fly them'

cheers and thanks for your help, happy hunting!
