TrackIR only works in one direction
Re: TrackIR only works in one direction
Yeah! I am happy to report that I may have found the answer to a TrackIR problem that has been bugging me big-time. Hopefully this could help other users:
Symptoms: Yaw, roll and pitch movements were getting mixed up. At times yaw movements did not track at all. The operation could sometimes be described as the tracker "only working in one direction."
Cause: I am using a rear-screen projector setup where I placed the TrackIR camera on a table below the screen. The camera was placed well below eye-level.
Solution: As soon as I placed the camera on top
of the projector screen, ABOVE EYE LEVEL, the
TrackIR system regained it's FLAWLESS tracking operation.
Conclusion: Watching the tracking display when the camera is significantly below eye-level it is easy to see why hat movements are confusing for the TrackIR software drivers if the camera is placed at an odd angle. I surmise that camera placement is critical when setting up a monitor like a large projector screen, etc. My advice to anyone having a similar problem is to re-evaluate your camera placement, and make sure that it is above eye-level.

Re: TrackIR only works in one direction
I'm about to throw this thing out the window. My track IR REFUSES to track to the left. I've tried every single fix suggested in here and on the NET and still no luck. Right now I have to say the next time someone talks about this thing on the the forums I frequent I'll have to give it a thumbs down. This tech is NOT ready for prime time.

Dave, sorry to read about the TrackIR bug on your system. What does the camera view of the hat reflectors look like? Does it look like the camera is picking up the hat movements? Just wondering about some details regarding the problem.

Re: TrackIR only works in one direction
Hey dave,
i see this is your first post.
Please call us, email us, or post about your problem before giving up. If it won't turn to the left, it sounds like the camera isn't pointed directly at you - so you can either turn the camera, or open the gauges window and turn off "mirror values" so you can amplify the turning left action wayyyyy up.
As for the issue that started this thread,
L3th4l, have you tried adjusting the gauges to be more senstive? (ie, moving them up?)
your screenshots show very low curves in the gauge windows.

Just wondering about some details regarding the problem. The Camera is picking up the reflectors fine. The heads and the views do not move. On the rare occaisions this thing DOES WORK in both directions if starts slowing down after a few minutes of use and eventually stops tracking in either direction. I can't use this thing as it is currently operating. I've made all the adjustments to it I know how to make. I'm not an idiot.. I built the rig I'm typing this on and while no longer "bleeding edge" it should have no problem with this...
Sigh...

Re: TrackIR only works in one direction
Interesting. In a private message someone stated that multiple installations of TrackIR software may be confusing the device. Fine, I went to do a clean install and I noticed something stranger than strange...
I had a TrackIR shortcut.
I have a TrackIR Program on my Harddrive.
I cannot find the program when I go to "add/remove software".
I've NEVER had this situation before. I suppose I cand delete the program either cause there's no menu option for it. I can't find it on A/R so I guess I'm stuck... Another marvelous feature of this marvelous product.

Re: TrackIR only works in one direction
Please download the most recent TrackIR Software:
http://media.naturalpoint.com/software/ ... .Final.exe
Run the executable that you download.
If it starts up and gives you a prompt to add/remove components or uninstall then choose to uninstall. Once uninstall is complete run the file again to install the TrackIR software.
If it starts up and does not provide such a prompt then go through the process as normal.
Once installation is complete run the TrackIR software.
Go to the View option and select Heads and Gauges
Now go to Tools and click on Start Recording
Move your head in a full range of motion, up, down, left, right, etc.
Do this for a couple of seconds.
Go to Tools and click on Stop Recording
Open up Windows Explorer and browse to:
C:\Program Files\Naturalpoint\TrackIR4
Locate a file called trackir.tdf and email it to support@naturalpoint.com
We will look at what the motion looks like, since a screen shot is not an option for you.
Your situation is atypical and we will need you to work with us to solve your issue.
Best,
Kevin

Re: TrackIR only works in one direction
Situation resolved. After a round of PM's with tech support I RMA my TrackIR 3 Pro and paid the difference to get a Track IR 4. No more hesitation and sticking problems. I must give NaturalPoint Kudos and thanks. I'm now a happy camper.
