Motion capture file formats?

Post by fbonniwell »

Hello my name is Frank Bonniwell and I'm a senior motion capture specialist working in the film industry. What motion capture file formats does OptiTrack support?

Thanks,

Frank

Frank:

Thanks for the post. I was forwarded your email and have responded in there.

We don't have any file formats at this time, just the SDK for people to develop their own applications. It appears as though we will be offering our own plug-ins or file output in the near future, as we are getting a lot of requests.

Please let the community know what type of motion capture you want to do, facial, full body, you name it. We are trying to figure out what products are going to be launched first.

Also, if people post, can you tell us where you saw OptiTrack?

Thanks!

I too would be interested in seeing what your solution could do for me. This is what I'm looking for:

1.- full body mocap, 1 or 2 characters max
2.- bvh and or/fbx file format

Like many others here, I use motionbuilder, so fbx would be the format of choice for me.

If your system can do full body mocap, I'd like to know what is the minimum setup required for this... 3 or 4 cameras? ,etc, etc, etc. Just so I have a rough idea of what we are talking about money wise...

Thanks!

Sincerely yours,

Hello:

Thanks for checking in with us. The OptiTrack response has been great. Our friend Frank has been helping us out, understanding the MoCap game and all. We are working on a tool kit add-on to the OptiTrack line that will allow for motion capture, like you describe. We plan on doing a single person system first, but perhaps a dual person to follow. The number of cameras will need to be at least 3, but more like 6 to 8. We don't expect the system price to be too much, we want to keep it low. The real problem is time, we need more programers around here, know of any that need a job? No dates to mention yet, but we are working on it.

In the mean time, think of OptiTrack as a development platform from which many different types of tracking can be done. We get new email requests every day for unique applications that the OptiTrack Flex camera is perfect for.
