Original Track IR

Post by Gary »

I paid 100 for my Track IR. It worked on win XP pro on 2 machines. Then it stopped working. Fresh installs of the operating system has not cured the fault. It just isn't recognised and can't find the driver (if there is one!) to use. I would have thought that since a fresh windows install hasn't cured the fault on either of my machines, the device must have died and since I've had it for over a year and used it about three times it's going to be hard to get my supplier to change it. Most of the year has gone by mucking around trying various scenarios to get it to work at the direction of Naturalpoint and waiting for better drivers. Any thoughts anybody? but don't bother saying the IR2 is the one to have because I won't be buying it.

i went through a very similar situation.

basically i unplugged the unit, uninstalled the trackir drivers, found the GUID for the device in registry, ripped out all the references to that GUID and any associated keys and all naturalpoint/trackir entries i could find.

rebooted and reinstalled the software, plugged in trackir and all was groovy.

Aha! I'll give it a go. 10 minutes later.....
Didn't work. I unplugged all my other USB devices, uninstalled the software and went through the registry to remove all there. Closed down all anti virus and ad prevention software and cleared any other programs running. Reboted and intstalled the software (latest on Natural points web site). Rebooted and plugged in the device. Windows recognised a USB device and the found new hardware wizard appeared. It couldn't fins a driver and suggested I try and find it myself. No luck. Does this driver exist? The green light on the unit never came on either. I think it's French Connection UK'd
Any other suggestions. Like what's the driver called and is it an inf file, where is it etc etc. Thanks in advance

Gary,

If you can e-mail me then we can find out if your unit may be faulty

Simon,

"Why is it that 'answers' can only be give-out privately?"

The straight forward simple solutions are handled on the forum. Unfortunatly not everyone has the same problem and there can be a failed install for many reasons.

However if this means having to alter the registry because of something else on their system or a failed install then it makes sense that this either be handled on the phone or through a set of instructions.

You may have a high understanding of computer systems, unfortunatly not everyone has the same understanding, this could be potentially bad if someone saw a registry fix on here and thought that may be my problem, when all along it was because he plugged the unit in before installing the software.

Not only that but it allows us to keep a log, then if there should be a pattern within a certain area we will be on to it straight away.

This is why we have a technical support to help individuals who may have a problem, and hopefully solve the problem quickly.

I hope that this helps to answer your question

That does make sense now that you explain it.
Hell we can't all be geniuses I suppose...
