trackir pro4 on nforce4 motherboard

Post by wohoa »

I has problem use trackir pro4 on my nforce4 motherboard.

When I plugin the trackIR pro4, the windows show the message: you plug the hi-speed device in the low-speed bus, please plug this to hi-speed bus.

It look that trackIR only use USB1.1 mode., but my other USB2.0 device is ok .

My system is windows xp SP2, use the windows XP sp2 USB driver, NOT use third party USB drivers. And trackIR software is 4.1.028

In bios, USB setiing is 1.1 + 2.0

My motherboard is DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D,BIOS is 2005/11/14,and ATX2.0 550W power.

How to use USB2.0?

Thank!

I bought a TIR4Pro 1 day ago and i'm already having the same problems as above.

I've got an "ASUS P5N32-SLI Deluxe" motherboard, which also uses NForce chipset.

The board has 10 USB 2.0 Ports on board. I have tried my TIRPro4 (#41791) in all 10 Ports, doing a full un-install/re-install of the software and drivers each time.

I am also experiencing the problems whereby after a reboot or full system shutdown, the unit will have no status lights and will not appear in the WinXP device manager.

I am running V4.1 Build 28 of the Software and I have installed the NPRegFix from these forums. O/S is WinXP Pro SP2 with all updates current 15/03/06.

Other USB Devices I have connected
- Port 5: Keyboard
- Port 6: Mouse
- Port 9: Momo Force Feedback USB S/Wheel
- Port 1: Track IR Pro

I have noticed that if I disconnect the S/Wheel and then re-plug the TIR4 in, I can get a connection. Then if I plug the s/wheel back in it seems to work ok.

If no software is running i get a dim red LEd on the top of the TIR4. Every 4secs i get a green flash.

As seen above, I have made sure the Track IR is on it's own USB controller to avoid any issues with excess power consumption from the wheel (which I read could be a problem in another forum on this site) I am running a 500W power supply with no other peripherals attached to the PC.

Another thing to note is that when I had the TIR4 working there was a huge reduction in FrameRate. I usually avg ~90fps in GTR, with the TIR4 running it's around ~50fps.

Any comments or suggestions from staff would be appreciated.

Sorry for the novel but I figure the more info I can give you guys, the better.

Tks.

Geez, I hope it ain't a prob with the nforce chipset not getting along with TIR4, I've got a new gaming rig being built with the same DFI Lanparty board, Athlon FX-60, Nvidia 7900 GTX 512mb SLI...

I'd hate it if my TIR4 is gonna act flaky with this new multi-$$$ system

NP, any thoughts on this?

Skyeye, I don't know a lot about USB power requirements but I'm wondering if maybe you're pushing the limits of your PS?

Maybe your system is right on the edge of what your PS can handle. The TIR4 DOES use a lot of power I've heard, if the TIR4 tries to draw more than the PS can give, would system drop back to USB 1.1?

Like I said, I don't know anything about it, just an idea. Might be interesting to disconnect your optical drives and try it again. If you get a 2.0 connection then, probably your PS isn't up to the job.

Good luck with it, hope you can get it working!

Unfortunatly it's looking like a trend. I have the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum nforce 4 board and am experiencing the exact same problem. I tried just about every usb port on the board and all of them seem to fallback to usb1.

However, I did have a cheap usb2/firewire pci card lying around, which seems to work just fine with the TrackIR. So that might be a work around for you guys.

This is something we are looking into. it appears some boards are including USB ports without proper power supply (so you get a similar experience to overloading an USB hub).
When we have official position on this we will post again. Thank you for your patience.

Is there any news on this issue yet, im using a DFi Lanparty mobo also, and although the trakc ir works fine, I seem to get a 50% hit on FPs while playing IL2 , I also get the same message no high speed ports available etc, but any other device I plug in to any port seems to be properly recognized as a 2.0 usb device its only with the track ir unit I get this prob. Some times in IL2 the FPS can now drop below 20 fps with track ir plugged in when its not it happily run at over 50.

I tried again on my main gaming computer with the nForce4 board, after un-installing the software and drivers, and a reboot.

Re-installed the software, and connected the device to one of the four USB2 ports directly off the motherboard, not via a hub, nor front panel ports off USB motherboard headers.

No crashes or issues, did complain about being able to run faster etc.

I have not, nor intend to move it to another USB port to see if this causes any more issues, as it seems to be happy where it is, and working. I just have to find my PDA another USB port as I have run out, there being only 4 directly off the motherboard.

There would seem to be an issue with the drivers, and the device is pretty particular where it is plugged in. But not too much should be taken of this, since I have only been able to test on two systems, and for just a couple of hours diagnostics.

It certainly is worth trying a few combinations out.

Since it was working, I just had to give Lock On a try using the 'default' profile for now, Whoa Oh, if this device remains stable and trouble free, I'll forgive the initial issues!

yeh sounds like the probs ive had, reinstall of drivers if moved to another port, but no matter what port you use always reports "could run faster" all ports are onboard mobo ones.

Have tried removing unessential usb devices to reduce chances of power issue, has no effect same message for port speed with only 3 devices as it is with 6 usb devices plugged in.

More possible nForce4 issues?

1 - Same issues with XP reporting this device can run faster on a USB2 port, when it is connected to one.

2 - Every time the device is moved from one USB port to another, WinXP requires to install the drivers again from CD.

3 - Sever system crash if attached to a USB hub, no information in the manual about it requiring 289ma power source, my hubs on the Logitech G15 keyboard only issue 100ma.

4 - On first install of drivers, system had a catastrophic failure, instant cold reboot.

5 - Several attempts later, and after a few more instant reboots, the drivers installed, the device worked. After a normal reboot, WinXP required the drivers to be installed? Instant cold reboot.

1 LiteOn DVDRW 16x
1 BTC DVDRom
2 Viewsonic VP930 19" LCD screen
1 BFG GeForce 7800GTX card

WinXP Pro SP2

I shall conduct further diagnosis on the above computer and my second gaming machine, to see if I can shed any more light on this driver issue.

I hope this problem can be resolved, as I look forward to using what looks to be a useful gadget to have for Lock On.
