More results from my second gaming computer.

This time the drivers installed without crashing the computer out and the device worked.

Unplugging and plugging in again, in the SAME usb port, the device worked just as a USB device should.

Moving the device to another USB required the CD for drivers again?

This is on a Asus A7N8X motherboard nForce2 motherboard, WinXP Pro, AMD 2.8Ghz Barton, Corsair Ram, ATI 9800Pro AGP card. Using a USB2 port directly off the motherboard.

Same problem here with Gigabyte K8NXP-Sli board. Error message saying "could be faster" etc, and I'm getting what looks like a slideshow when I run Pacific Fighters.

Not impressed. My old TrackIR 1 was better than this.

For those of you having issues with your USB ports on the motherboard, what happens if you try a powered USB hub?

Also when playing your game you will want to make sure the TrackIR windows (heads, guages, tracking) are closed. If these windows are open they can cause performance hits.

TrackIR software window is minimised with no gauges running.

Tracking will also occasionally go haywire in Pacific Fighters, with the view jumping around all over the place. I always have to exit the game and restart the TrackIR software and the game to fix it.

Yeh Ive had the jumping issues also in PF, also running with window minimized etc, and as I stated before the trakc ir is the only device that doesnt get detected at its correct speed even with the minimum ammount of devices plugged in, so doubt its a power issue in my case anyway.

Hmmm, it's gone quiet hasn't it? And here I am 110 quid lighter in the pocket, with a useless TrackIR 4 sitting on the top of my monitor. Marvellous.

I think I'll contact the vendor to see if they'll give me my money back.

I contacted the vendor who suggested installing a USB 2 card to see if that fixes the problem. Not sure if that will work and don't see why it would to be honest, but will give it a go out of absolute desperation. He has offered to do a deal on a TrackIR 3 Pro though, if the PCI card doesn't fix things.

speaking from my own point of view m8, my mobo is usb 2 compatible on all 6 usb ports, and the only device i have problems with is the Track Ir 4.

This suggests that its highly unikely to be a chipset specific fault as you'd expect a range of usb 2 devices to display the same sort of issues as the track ir. To me is seems much more likely to be either :-

A) Track IR 4 Software incompatability with NF 4 mobos.

or

B) Track Ir 4 Harware conflict with NF 4 mobos.

I dont think its likely that all Nf 4 mobos have an inherent fault the makes them all inccorectly detect the Track Ir 4 at a slower port speed than they should, because as stated earlier you'd expect this to affect quite a few USB 2.0 devices if this were the case.

I could be wrong and it could be a 50/50 case but I quite easily run 6 other Usb devices including :- Joystick Saitek X52, Saitek Gamers KB, MX1000 Cordless Mouse, Bluetooth dongle, Logitec Webcam and a Logitech Force Feedback wheel with no probs at all, BUT unplug everything Bar Keyboard and Mouse and plug Track Ir in and hey presto says not enough high speed ports available, and all the USB ports on the DFI Lan Party mobo im using are 100% USB 2.0 and 1.1 compatible !

So I dunno I guess they find a fix either way soon.

If you are having issues similar to what is mentioned above please follow these steps:

*Click Start --> Run
*Type dxdiag and click OK
*This will launch dxdiag. Click Next.
*Check that there are no warnings on the DirectX Files tab. If there are it could be that you have corrupt/out-of-date drivers.
*Click next
*Run all the display tests. Note any errors. (if you have two monitors you'll need to run tests for each one)
*Click next
*Save the report to your desktop.
*Attach the report to an email and send it to support@naturalpoint.com.

In the email please note whether you have tried using a third party USB card and/or an external powered USB hub. Also please email screenshots of the error messages you guys are getting so I can bring this to our lead programmers attention.

We will work to compile your responses and identify a solution.

As a little bit of clarification:

Our device utilizes the "Full Speed" component of the USB 2.0 specification, which means it is compatible with USB 2.0. It does not utilize the "Hi Speed" component of the USB 2.0 specification though.

Please see the link that I have included, which may help.

I have USB 1.1 and 2.0 on my home system and TrackIR works on both ports. I have to be honest and say that I have not noticed a speed increase or decrease between the two ports.

I have to be honest and say that I have not noticed a speed increase or decrease between the two ports.I just installed a USB 2 PCI card (having read a post earlier in this thread I was more convinced that this would work), connected the TrackIR 4 to it and it worked properly

Odd that, isn't it? Doesn't work properly on USB through NForce4 drivers but works fine on an NEC chipset USB 2 card.

Does this mean that the fault is compatibility related with your software or hardware, or will a new NForce driver revision hopefully cure the issue?
