Vista x64 & driver signing

Post by scottm »

Looks like Vista x64 requires signed drivers, and as of RC1 you cannot easily disable that. Will there be signed drivers available any time soon?

We do have Vista support on our internal road map, done deal. We are always working hard on great new stuff for the community, we appreciate that you recognize this, customer service is #1 at NatualPoint. Vista is not a trivial thing to develop and test, as our product works at the driver level. We want to make sure we get it right, as you would expect, this takes time. So, please hold tight, we are aware that you need this support and we will make it happen. As far as a time frame goes, we can't be specific, (as you all know, software commitments are a dangerous thing!), it will come as soon as we can make it happen.

What happens when using the XP 64-bit drivers?

Vista will not enable the driver because it is not "Digitally Signed". The software and driver installs but the system disables the device. The software therefore gives a "No device installed" message. Natural Point drivers need to be "Digitally Signed" soon as Vista is here folks.

Actually, there should be an option to install the drivers without the need to have them digitally signed by MS.

Not in Vista x64 or any following OS from MS....

"With the threat from kernel-mode rootkits on the rise, Microsoft plans to make a significant policy change to block uncertified drivers from loading on x64 versions of Windows Vista.

The decision to block unsigned drivers from loading is a direct attempt to restrict the spread of powerful rootkits that intercept the native API in kernel-mode and directly manipulate Windows data structures."

Vincent:

Great. I like how my games run on Vista 64, but not being able to use it while using this os makes the gaming a lot less emmersive. It's strange how MS allows it to work with the 32 bit version of Vista and not the 64 bit version. Do you think this might be a quick fix? Please say yes

Hum, gut feeling is no, this probably won't be a quick fix.

Also, you are correct in it being strange in the difference betwwen the 2 OS installs.
