What is happening with the new drivers release?
What is happening with the new drivers release?
With all my respect: Why the new drivers are taking so long to arrive?
Long time ago, Naturalpoint released new drivers constantly, but now, seems that all software engineers have been fired, because month after month, nothing. NADA. Niente. Im very dissapointed with this lack of updates.
Also, the FSX patch disabled my FS9 functionality, so I had to reinstall the "standart" drivers again, and the only mini-update in months was a failure on my PC. I have FSX beta, but if I have to choose, I prefer to use TrackIR on FS9 for now.
Why cant you release a beta driver and/or show the new features you are including on the new drivers to the community?
I know TIR 4 has been a huge success for NP, but it deserves more updates, like TIR 2 and 3 before it.
Regards.

Re: What is happening with the new drivers release
Could you please elaborate on what "true view" actually does?
Re: What is happening with the new drivers release
For example, looking left and down, you can see the ground in a flight sim. If you then tried to zoom, the view would shift to the front of the aircraft. With the new drivers the view zooms toward the ground.
Re: What is happening with the new drivers release
Thanks, that sounds interesting. Some time ago I tried to tackle that problem in the game code but my brain started to hurt rather badly..
Re: What is happening with the new drivers release
Just put the 4.1.029 Alpha 2 drivers on, Vincent, that "true view" is the coolest thing since, well since TrackIRFor example, looking left and down, you can see the ground in a flight sim. If you then tried to zoom, the view would shift to the front of the aircraft. With the new drivers the view zooms toward the ground.
FINALLY I can look "intuitively" out the side windows! If I look 90 deg left, and move my head forward (toward the side window) my nose hits the side window instead of the windshield! That is just so much better I can't describe it Much nicer on the downwind leg to keep the runway in sight, before I had to remember to slide my head left and then turn it, so see around the doorframe pillar in my Cessna 177. Now I can just do it the normal way, look left and lean forward toward the pillar!
I've noticed what may or may not be a bug though, I'll pass it along.
I use a CH Flight Yoke so there's no space on my desk for the keyboard - I keep it on a low stand on my left, about 4 inches below my hip-level. So to see the key I need to hit, I have to look down and left, leaning totally out of the TIR's view.
Problem is, when I do this, often the TIR totally loses its center, and when I get back in position I'm looking straight down at the floor Then I have to re-center it.
This NEVER happened with the 4.1.028 software. No matter what I did, that software always recentered perfectly when I got back in proper position.
Another thing I've noticed, the 4.1.029 seems a little slow unloading when you close it - the lights on the TIR stay lit up for as long as 20 seconds after closing, and TrackIR.exe is visible in Task Manager. 4.1.028 would always shut down instantly.
I uninstalled 4.1.029, reinstalled the earlier 4.1.028, and this behavior was repeated At this point, whatever version I have installed shuts down slowly. Curious...
Finally, I'm assuming this version does NOT work with FSX Demo? Tried and tried tonight, and can't get it working I want FSX so bad I can taste it, but it's useless to me until TIR works with it as well as it does with FS9. Should I wait before I get FSX? Or is the 4.1.029 software ready to go with the final FSX?
Re: What is happening with the new drivers release
I will pass on the "bug" issues, and thanks for letting us know about any issues you might be having.
The alpha software we currently have listed, only works with the beta version of FSX. The demo version was designed to restrict some 3rd party hardwware from functioning. Something had to be cut to get a 2 DVD install, down to 700MBs in size.
We are currently working on getting final drivers released for the release version of FSX, and hope to have them released shortly.

Re: What is happening with the new drivers release
One thing to try on the centering issue.
Map the pause function to a button on your joystick, and then pause the TrackIR before looking down at your keyboard and un-pause after performing the necessary keyboard function.
