Do the the 3 reflector style hat clips have to stay in the same position in order for all axis to work properly?
I don't like the clip on the bill of my hat, it seems silly. I was hoping NP would produce hats that that have reflectors retro'd into the fabric but NOOooOO.
I'm thinking about buying another clip, cutting off the reflectors, and hot glueing them to a hat, or a stocking cap, or... Is it possible to do this?
Reflector clip - can I modify?
Re: Reflector clip - can I modify?
Well, the vector algorithms are designed for the mathematical ratio between the 3 reflectors;
Cutting them off, and adjusting them can cause some very weird movement, and erratic behavior.
We will be releasing a new headset add-on shortly, which includes active LEDs, and attaches to flight headsets in general.

Re: Reflector clip - can I modify?
Does it mean that I cannot put reflectors anywhere I like? They absolutely have to be on NP clip with those exact distances? What if I wanna bend NP clip? I thought vector algorithms are designed for any three abstract poits...Well, the vector algorithms are designed for the mathematical ratio between the 3 reflectors;

Re: Reflector clip - can I modify?
Bending the clip to radically, or adjusting the space can cause an issue with the vector relationship being out of alignment, thereby throwing off the "math".
Re: Reflector clip - can I modify?
Hi Vincent, that's great news. Any more details on the headset add-on(how will it work/much of an improvment in the tracking department etc)?We will be releasing a new headset add-on shortly, which includes active LEDs, and attaches to flight headsets in general.
Cheers

We should have more information posted on our website about it as soon as we have the hardware available.

Re: Reflector clip - can I modify?
I use a projector for visuals so I have to have my TrackIR behind me. I couldn't just wear the cap backwards as the brim points down too much when doing so to be picked up so I made some more reflectors myself from spherical balls of modelling clay (maybe half an inch in diameter) and covered them in reflective tape. I have one of these stuck on the centre of the top of my cap and two protruding about three inches from the back of the cap on the end of two thin metal shafts, approximating the relative positions of the vector clip reflectors.
The slight differences in positions of my reflectors compared to the clip seemed to make no difference to the tracking. However the fact that I am using spherical reflectors rather than the original slightly curved strips gives a HUGE improvement. I can now rotate my head through an arc that's at least 50% bigger before the TrackIR looses track which is a hell of a good upgrade for a total cost of maybe a fiver. The only slight disadvantage is that I look even more stupid than you guys do if I forget to take off the cap when I nip down to the shops.
Cheers,
DD

Re: Reflector clip - can I modify?
Generally, most people don't have an issue as long as the tracking reflectors don't "cross".
