Stuttering TrackIR4 with FSX

Post by nibloi »

Hi

Just downloaded alpha 3 and thought I should let you know of any problems.

I've noticed that if I pan right or left beyond a certain amount in 2d cockpit view the 3d cockpit appears behind it. As soon as I straighten my head it vanishes leaving 3d behind.

I also noticed a marked stuttering - the panning is very 'jagged'. I set the FSX display settings to minimum to free up systeme resources but the panning is still very jerky. Incidently I've been using the TrackIR4 with FS9 for a while and it's smooth as silk in there.

Let me know if you need more testing done,

All the best

Yes the panel reappearing is what happens in FSX when your turn beyond a certain point.

What framerate are you getting?

Any extra tracking dots in the TrackIR software?

I also have stutters with the Build .29 version. First I was using version .28 and Fs9 works very smooth with it. After that I tried the .29 alpha 1 version but it stutterd very much in FS9 (my Fs9 fps was about 25fps, just like build 28, only the TrackIR4 fps looked like 2fps). Then I was using version 28 again in Fs9. Since I bought FSX Deluxe I downloaded version 29 Alpha 3 cause thats the only version that supports FSX I think. Now I also got smooth frame rates in Fs9 and FSX (20-30fps), only the TrackIR frame rate looks very low.

BTW the exterior TrackIR views are nice, AND work smoothly (no stutters like VC view).

I hope somebody can fix thi

I already posted my feedback in a different thread but think its relevant here (again) and didn't want it to go missed:

Hi,

I became a TIR4 Pro customer yesterday. First impressions are fantastic, great product and very, very happy.

i wanted to post as I agree with the 2 points that bully makes above. I too am experiencing 'shaking' when trying to adjust controls in the virtual cockpits. I think the most difficult one is the Airbus as not only do the switches enable you to increase or decrease the value but the actual switch itself is an on/off switch too. This is fine in real ife (I imagine) but a nightmare with TIR4 and the latest release of drivers for FSX.

You can literally turn a good flight into a disaster as TIR4 becomes uncontrollable as you try to change heading etc whilst navigating.

another point I agree with is that whilst looking down, there seems to be a destablized 'zone' that pins your head to the seat. This is quite hard to explain but basically if TIR4 doesn't like the angle your trying to achieve it has a little tantrum to itself then pins you head to the seat aiming down. Your literally left looking at the bottom of the seat. This too is a nightmare in flight.

I get very different results in the TIR4 software than I do in FSX unfortunately. What I mean is when I calibrate it in the TIR4 software the movement of the head is perfect, matches exactly what I'm doing. When I load FSX is becomes over sensitive and generally unstable.

I realise these are only BETA drivers and there will be improvements on the way. I'm not moaning just providing relevant, constructive feedback.

The tips that the above post give are good tips. Pausing does work, for now, but it would be great to have these issues resolved.

EDIT: Forgot to say, I'm seeing good FPS in the VC. That isn't a problem for me. I'm also using the latest BETA drivers .30.

One thing to try is adjusting the flight profile that is loading.

1 - Try increasing your "dead zone" as this can allow the trackIR to ignore casual head movements with effecting the view on the screen.

2 - when you are lossing the view, looking at the bottom of the seat, as you said, have you looked at the tracking window of the TrackIR software at that time?

I would be corious to see what the TrackIR tracking window is seeing, the camera angle might need to be adjusted so it isn't loosing the vector clip, of if it starts tracking another heat source.

Thought it was worth mentioning RivaTuner. You're probably all familiar with it but if not it's a freeware tool that lets you tweak your graphics card in some pretty useful ways.

The stuttering that I originally reported (top of this topic) has long since vanished and I'm pretty sure it's thanks to enlarging the memory used by my graphics card.

If anyone's getting poor frame rates or is experiencing stuttering graphics I strongly encourage them to look into this.

Please can you tell me how did you enlarge the memory used by your GPU ? I didnt find any option related in Riva Tuner.-
Thanks

No probs - I've cobbled together a couple of screen captures to show what I changed.

If the post doesn't show it you can see the image here

Screen Captures

Note: It's probably not all that clear from these screen captures but on the main RivaTuner tab you'll see two drop-down boxes. You need to click the little triangle at the right hand side of the second one down to get the pop-up toolbar that I've circled.

Hope this helps

Ian
