FSX Install
Re: FSX Install
Hi,
1st time tried disabling the option (unticking in options) and the TrackIR App fell over, had to end through Task Manager. Tried again and it disabled ok but still no joy in fsx. TIR still locks on exit...
Cheers

Re: FSX Install
Vincent, turning off the news check did the trick for me.

Re: FSX Install
Hi, I'd like to confirm some of my findings on this problem with FSX.
I have tried all of the above suggestions;
Clean install of both FSX and TrackIR (4.1.029.alpha.03), unticked 'News Update', made sure that both FSX and TrackIR have unrestricted access in my application firewall, and also tried totally unloading my virus checker / firewall (F-Secure).
None of these have changed the situation for me. TrackIR works fine for other games, just not for FSX. I also have to end the program with the Task Manager, program hangs on exit.
Keep up the good work, it's a great product and I wouldn't be without it now.
Cheers
Andy

Re: FSX Install
Andy, after a fresh install try not selecting any exclusive check box. In profiles set the auto profile for Flight Simulator X to what ever you want but do not select any exclusive auto load. It may not have any effect but unselecting the auto news feature and unselecting the exclusive load allowed the blue light to come on and I have head movement in 2D, VC and spot view.
My question to Vincent is can we get rid of the movement in spot view. I would much prefer to have the use of Track IR in the cockpit only.
Thanks, Tom

Thanks for this, it worked!
I again un-installed, then re-installed TrackIR, only un-selected the news button and then tried FSX. The blue light came on correctly and is now working in VC, 2D and spot views, as you say. I have not made any other changes.
I assume from this that the act of selecting any profile for exclusive load, even if you then un-select it, is the cause of the failure. TrackIR just won't detect FSX correctly - so the bug may be in profile selection part of the code?
Thanks again,
Cheers

Re: FSX Install
Checking back in after all the other suggestions...
Still no joy.
I uninstalled TIR, rebooted, exited McAfee, Steam, basically anything that I could out of the system tray, and installed TIR again. Unchecked the "news check", no exclusive loads, etc. Once FSX was loading, the TIR4 sofware "had a problem and needed to unload", as reported by XP. This now happens everytime, so now I have to load TIR4 AFTER FSX gets to the menu.
Still get the blue light. Green light when my head-gear is in site, off when it isn't.
This doesn't require FSUIPC does it? Haven't loaded it yet.
Still no joy.

Re: FSX Install
I finally got it!
After reading Pete Dowson's README file for FSUIPC4 (come on, how often do we really take the time to read these things!) he spoke of McAfee's Privacy Service and how it's put the kabosh on his software.
So I tried it with the new install of FSUIPC4 and disabling Privacy Service from the McAfee Security Center. No luck, and as noted in the README, ADD-ON isn't on the menu-bar in FSX.
So I uninstalled ONLY the Privacy Service within McAfee (you have to be logged in as it's Administrator to do this). Rebooted.
Loaded FSX, waited to the menu, loaded TIR4, and selected FLY NOW on the default Ultralight flight.
It works!
So for those with McAfee, you can't simply "disable" Privacy Service from the "Security Center", you have to uninstall it completely.
Hope this helps.

Re: FSX Install
I've just done yet again as you all advised.. It still does not go..
Do you think this is a MSFKU.. because every time I down load Trackire, Bill Gates pops up and says the logo isnt recognised by XP and it might be unsafe to go further..
Is there some rune I have to use here?
anyway.. While waiting for some thing to happen.. a few moments of pleasure can be obtained by getting the Beaver on to the local water and doing screech stops.. ie taxy like mad then before it takes off, kick on full rudder and try and keep the 'outside' wing out of the water.. sort of 'ground' loop or the aviation equivalent of a snowmobile-yobo-bike. (wat do they call the motor bikes for water which kill swimmers every year?)Anyway fill up the harbour with 'traffic' and enjoy..
Since this is best viewed from outside the plane.. it doesnt need the Trackire or the finger agility of a violinist to do it. Mind you I am getting in some landing practice with Rob.. try to fly over and under alternative hoops on the approach.. You're too high you're too low you're too etc.. Hope someone fixes it soon.
Sad isnt it. Back to IL2 etc...
regards wehyam

Re: FSX Install
Same thing for me. I had to uninstall McAfee privacy service. An it all worked again.
But I can't find the reason wich part of privacy service is giving me these problems. Maybe Vincent knows.

Re: FSX Install
Same as LoneFlyer and Sgt.Baker. After uninstalling the McAffee Privacy Service TrackIR works fine at last in FSX.
I've read somewhere that you can wrap the TCP/IP stack in XP with custom applications. If the wrapper is not properly coded it may function well for its own purposes (i.e. add a Privacy Service) but screw other functionalities. As this TCP/IP communication between processes is not a commonly used feature it has probably passed all McAffee quality checks despite being badly coded. Do a Google search with this and you'll find that this problem is not only happenning to TrackIR but to some other programs, and it has been happenning from a long time ago.
The reason why a 'disable' doesn't work is because even if the wrapper is disabled it is still there wrapping the TCP stack.
Resume of things to try:
- If blue light is off, make sure that both TrackIR and FSX have full internet access in your firewall. This is before you uninstall anything.
- If TrackIR hangs on exit, same as before plus uncheck 'News check' in the TrackIR menu.
- If you have McAffee, blue light is on in FSX but it doesn't respond to head movement, uninstall Privacy Service (not only disable it, you have to uninstall it).
- If you have other PS/FW/AV, blue light is on in FSX but it doesn't respond to head movement, try to unistall PS/FW/AV and see what happens.
This checklist is not comprehensive but it's a good starting point. Most of the problems seem to have been fixed this way.
Good luck.
