Axis Y not steady.

Post by 150GCT_Manta »

If I'm not mistaken, axis Y should emulate the head vertical movement. I have been testing latest alpha 3 drivers with Forgotten Battles and I'm quite pleased of the results. Too bad I'm experiencing a minor issue not happening with earlier drivers. A soon as I stare down and gaze inside the cockpit gauges, the screen is unable to keep it steady and begins "to float" from left to right.

Maybe I just need to tune it up a little, but I don't know where to start since diagnostics work pretty well.

Cheers

You can try adjusting the deadzone, in the profile for the application, as well as adjusting the settings curve.

If you watch the head display you'll see that the original "unscaled" head loses tracking. After that, the settings curve can't do much since other axis can be affected.

I suspect the hat tracking polygon loses it's reference and thinks the top center dot is in front of the bottom side dots. When you look down, the three come close to forming a vertical plane. At that point the geometry makes it hard for the program to know which point is in front. When you look back up, the bottom dots may be assumed to be behind the top dot, which causes the polygon orientation to be miscalculated.

Here's an image showing two possible orientations of the polygon given the same dot positions on the tracker. The one shown in front is the more likely case, since the back one would theoretically mean you're looking backwards or so far down that your chin is in your chest..

Thanks all

Nightfly, my head movement replica is just like you said. And as you suppose, though i change deadzone or try to scale the axis curve, the Tir movement doesn't seem to be affected at all. In fact it seems to not recognize which axis is dominant. But it happens only as I stare down and not if my head moves upwards...

Please send the following info to , support@naturalpoint.com

What is the Serial # of the device?
It should be located on the end of the cable, near the USB plug, or on the underside of the device.

Could you attach a screen shot of your device manager, and tracking screen?

To make Print Screen work, you must save an image of what's displayed on-screen to the clipboard and then paste it into a document where it can be printed.

Windows Help: Print Screen

To do this, follow this procedure:

1. Maximize the window you'd like to capture.
2. To copy/capture the current window, hold down ALT + Print Scrn at the same time. To capture the entire screen, just press Print Scrn alone.
3. Open a new document in MS Paint, MS Word, MS Photo Editor, or Adobe PhotoShop.
4. Paste the screen shot by holding down CTRL and V at the same time.
5. Save the document as a .JPG or .JPEG file and send it in.

Thanks, mail sent.

Playing with Lomac, also with alpha 3 drivers, I noticed that not only Pitch axis are unstable as I look down, but I have an issue even with Z axis.

If I look on my right for example, and I begin to get close to tir, the screen starts to enlarge as it should, but after a brief moment it stops. I can acquire maximum pitcure enlargement only if I look once again in front of my tir.

I have never had any of these issues with the final released drivers... In fact I'm getting back to use them once again... But soon I'm going to buy FSX... than what'll I do?

I have reinstalled the last final released drivers and I can confirm these issues bug out (am I using the right words?)

For the moment I'm going to stay with 4.1 build 28 hoping you'll be able to emulate my issues.

It sounds like you are experiencing the exact same symptoms that Avindair and I mentioned in the TIR3 forum. Hopefully the cause of this issue can be identified and fixed for the next driver version.
