TIR4Pro USB problem Gigabyte GA M55plus-S3G Rev1

Post by Tarnish »

I have a Gigabyte GA M55plus-S3G Rev1 motherboard and until yesterday my TIR4Pro was working fine. When I went to use it yesterday I found that the TIR software was not displaying despite being visible in the processes active window and I was getting a flashing blue light on the TIR unit.

I removed the TIR and uninstalled and reinstalled the software. When I plugged the unit back into my PC I was presented with a message telling me it was a high speed device and needed a USB 2.0 port, strange because USB 2.0 is all I have on my mobo. I checked my device manager list and saw listed:-

Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host controller
Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller

I have tried the TIR and software on a friend's PC and it installed and worked fine so it would seem that as far as my Mobo is concerned regards TIR it will only function as a USB 1.1 port on all six USB ports with all other devices removed. I've also updated my BIOS to F9 to no effect. I'm really quite confused about this especially the software refusing to work correctly. No other USB device I'm using seems to have a problem.

Any ideas anyone?

Just noticed my PC is listing 8 USB ports when I only have six too.

Are you plugging in directly to the system, or are you using a hub?

Have you tried isolating the device on the USB ports?

Have you tried turn off any kind of power save feature for your USB ports?

In the "Device Manager" you can right click the "USB Hub"(s), that show, and then select properties. On the power management tab, uncheck the box that allows the computer to turn off the USB port to save power (i.e. uncheck the box). Sometimes that has an impact on the connectivity of the devices.

Do you have the latest USB shipset drivers installed?

There may be several internal USB ports that are not plugged into anything.

We have seen this issue with some Nvidia chipset motherboards. It is just an error in the detecting, and reporting of the unit. The unit should preform just fine.

*UPDATE*
I had the TIR plugged directly into my system and I had items such as power saving addressed as a matter of course long before I encountered any problem. All other suggestions I received I tried out but to no avail. In the end I removed the TIR and software carried out a clean up of my system then left it be for the rest of the day. When I tried again I reinstalled the software and then turned my PC off before plugging in the TIR hardware. After that it worked perfectly fine and has continued to do so. I guess I'll just have to put this down to a foible of my Mobo. The issue of the TIR software not functioning correctly I still find quite odd mind you.

Thanks for your help.
