TrackIR frame drop when landing in FS9

Post by jgoggi »

HI,
I noticed a problem with FS9, TrackIR related (I have TrackIR 4):
when I arrive at the destination airport I notice a big fps drop. If I just press ALT so that the FS menus appear, or ALT+TAB to switch to desktop or other applications, then I go back to FS, the frame rate goes back to an acceptable value.
If TrackIR software is not loaded everything is smooth until the end.
It seems like a problem of TrackIR taking up too much memory with time.
I tried both versions 4.1.030 and 4.1.028 of the software.
I also check that the window runs minimized, the light in my room is correct and the distances between clip and sensor are correct.
I don't have antivirus and all applications and useless services are shut down. I have 2Gb of Ram.
I repeat, the problem is only after some time of flying, often during landing (even in very light airport addon sceneries).
Any ideas?
Thank you very much,
James

1 - What add-on applications are you running?

2 - Are you running any firewall/antivirus applications? Which ones?

3 - Are you using a USB hub, or plugging directly into the system?

4 - When this occurs, if you go into the Task Manager->Processes Tab; what are the CPU resources being used?

Sorry, Vincent, I posted the same reply on the AVSIM forum.

1.I run all applications on a laptop, WideFS-connected to my FS computer, so no apps except FS and TIR. I also shut down unnecessary windows services (not through programs like FSstart, just through msconfig).
2.No, no antivirus, nor firewall. I don't have Internet on my FS computer.
3.No hub, the TIR is directly connected to the computer.

If I go to the Task Manager, the resources vary between 0,2,3 and at times 6-7.
I noticed that as soon as I run TrackIR, the memory used is about 8000 KB. If I restore the TIR window and then minimize it, the memory usage goes down to about 1000 KB, increasing then with time when I fly. Is it normal, isn't it? Couldn't be that after some time the memory usage gets too high?
I use ver. 4.1.030, but the same is with 4.1.028.
Thanks for your reply.

A couple of other things to look at....

1 - Have you tried turn off any kind of power save feature for your USB ports?

In the "Device Manager" you can right click the "USB Hub"(s), that show, and then select properties. On the power management tab, uncheck the box that allows the computer to turn off the USB port to save power (i.e. uncheck the box). Sometimes that has an impact on the connectivity of the devices.

2 - Latest chipset drivers, and motherboard bios installed?

3 - In the following folder, C:\ProgramFiles\NaturalPoint\TrackIR4\Profiles, are any of the profiles listed larger than 4 KB in size?

Those reading are normal, and nothing looks out of place....
