A prospective buyer

Post by tredwellpcb »

Hi-

Considering buying smartnav3. My situation: professional programmer. Pain in forearms, fingers which has been diagnosed (twice) as overuse syndrome. I need to use PC 6-8 hrs per day to earn a living. I find that I need to avoid traditional mouse use. The clicking is the primary thing. I have the FootMouse by Hunter Digital which did not work for cursor movement since it was just too tricky to control w/ precision. and also now the click control foot pad is failing - won't always click (less than 1 yr old)

My questions: What are my options and what are the best for clicking? I have read about your dwell click, voice click, gravity, etc. I think that another button to click is going to defeat the purpose for me.

I sometimes have to design user interfaces which require left click and hold and drag to fairly precise locations. How is smartnav going to help me with this?

I don't mine training myself to use a device if it's going to perform well. I know that it all depends on my physical capabilities (which are otherwise very good), but can I expect to have as good performance and productivity as with a standard mouse ?

thanks

Most people find the ease of use to be just as good as a standard mouse, it just takes a little bit of retraining to use your natural head movement.

The thing with the SmartNAV is that we try to give the customer as many options as possible when it comes to performing mouse clicks.

The options include, standard mouse, keyboard hotkeys, standard input devices such as a foot switch, voice activation, as well as dwell clicking. You can use all of these, at the same time if you like. Generally, it is a matter of preference and ease of use for each customer.

The software also has a precision mode, which can allow for very delicate mouse movement as well.

Thanks for your prompt response, Vincent. What "flavor" of smartnav would you recommend given that I would like to try voice recog and dwell clicking

thanks

To get dwell clicking, you would need to get the AT model of the SmartNAV product. As for the Voice software accessory, it will work with any of the SmartNAV models.
