Re: TIR4 doesn't work anymore with FsX
Hi everyone, I'm re-entering this thread to join you all in this sorry saga.
Vincent has been wonderful, in numbers of emails and in a trans-pacific conversation (I'm in Australia..)
I run a dual vista/xp boot.
On Vista fsk installs but trackir doesn't work with it. I've uninstalled reinstalled countless numbers of times and followed vincent's help ensuring that the simconnect folder is where it should be.
IL2 works fine on this boot with trackir.
On my xp boot trackir works with fsx BUT fsx doesn't validate.. again over and over again I've uninstalled, reinstalled, and been through microsoft tech support extensively. Eventually they sent me a replacement pair of discs.
Installed them today and STILL no trackir.
I've wasted endless hours on this and it appears there's no fix so if anyone has any wisdom I'd be so grateful.
Leigh.

Re: TIR4 doesn't work anymore with FsX
Well, well, well ...
After a little check of my Fsx folders under my documents, I noticed that Fsx had installed ALL the simConenct files (.cfg and .xml) into the ALL_USERS/applicationData/Microsoft/Fsx folder !!
So, after I moved those files from that location to the correct location i.e. C:/documents and settings/my_username/applicationData/Microsoft/Fsx, it worked
Thank you Vincent for your help, I really thought once that it was Natural Point's prb, but after reading some others posts on some other forums, I figured it was maybe because of some inexistant files in my Fsx folder.
And i was right (if it could happens more oftenly !!)
Ok, I glad to see everything works just perfectly now, so have a nice day for all of ya
Emmanuel

Excellent, glad it is working for you know......
Re: TIR4 doesn't work anymore with FsX
My TIR3 also stopped working with FSX.
First some info about my setup...
* Asus A8N-E mainboard with N-Force4 Ultra chipset, Athlon 64 3200+, 2 GB of memory, Asus 6600GT Extreme with 128 MB RAM (or was it 256 MB? Whatever.)
* Windows XP Professional with SP2 installed
* FSX Standard edition with SP1 installed
* TIR3, no vector expansion
* NOD32 virus scanner
(All software is legal.)
My TIR3 works just fine with Falcon 4 Allied Force, the blue light comes on when I'm about to fly. But with FSX, the blue light does not come on.
I started 'playing' FSX about a week ago after I purchased both XP and FSX. It used to work great, until I think I installed FSX SP1. Around that time I also started tweaking graphics settings, it might have to do something with that. Somewhere on a forum these settings were recommended:
http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_fsx_techtips.html
(scroll down to "For a more detailed list CLICK HERE", click the link and see the 6600GT-column, I used that setup)
After that I started having crashes when I switch to the cockpit view under F10. I could fly as much as I want, until I switched to F10. Well and after a couple of CTD's the blue light didn't come on again. So what caused these crashes? SP1? After a clean reinstall of FSX + SP1, without changing the settings, I can switch as much as I want between F9 and F10 so it doesn't look like it. Then I guess the tweaking caused it.
Anyway, after a clean install of FSX, the blue light didn't come on. Added SP1, still doesn't work. Uninstalled TrackIR, installed it again, still doesn't work. Plugged it into another USB-port (some of the driver parts get reinstalled then, right?), didn't help.
I read stuff about SimConnect and the SDK, but I have the standard version of FSX so the SDK is not available to me is it? At least I can not find it on the DVD's.
I do have these 2 directories you are talking about in the forums:
x86_Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.60905.0_x-ww_429211e9
x86_Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.61242.0_x-ww_35e8ee9a
But they both only contain 1 file: SimConnect.dll
Also tried disabling my virusscanner, didn't help. I was running Windows 2000 until a week ago, so you can imagine that my XP-setup is still quite clean. Therefore if you would like me to try reinstalling XP, that is no problem! But that's more like a workaround instead of a solution isn't it? Then we won't know what caused the problem.
Do you have anything else I could try?
Thanks in advance!

Re: TIR4 doesn't work anymore with FsX
OK, try the following steps......
1 - Uninstall SP1, from within Add/Remove programs
2 - Delete the following file folder
C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.60905.0_x-ww_429211e9
3 - Insert the FSX CD, and run the repair utility. Basically we are looking to reinstall the folder.
4 - Run a test flight, and check that the TrackIR is running properly
5 - Reinstall SP1

Re: TIR4 doesn't work anymore with FsX
Wow that actually worked! Thanks a lot! After uninstalling SP1 and repairing the installation, TIR worked again. Then I installed SP1, and it still works!
I'll do some tweaking again (step by step this time) and investigate at which point it stops working, see if I can pinpoint the cause. I'll let you know when I have a reproducable situation.
You da man Vincent, I owe you one.
(Oh btw, did you send me a PM? I had a PM when I got back to the forum, the "My Home" screen also shows that I have 1 message but I can't read it. When I send myself a PM then I can read it without any problems.)

Re: TIR4 doesn't work anymore with FsX
Hmmm, no PM from me.......
Glad to help out....
It probably wasn't the adjustments, that caused the issue, just some corruption in the simconnect file..... it happens.

Re: TIR4 doesn't work anymore with FsX
Should there be simconnect.cfg and simconnect.xml in the docs and settings folders? I have no files with that names. I'll see to find them on my c: or E:
Re: TIR4 doesn't work anymore with FsX
Not by default, they are only installed if you are using some 3rd party applications that require them.
