Possible Solution to USB Device not Recognized

Post by thommh »

Today I was at a friends, who was having troubles with his USB Stick audio player. When he plugged it into his computer it was not being recognized, with the operation system displaying the much dreaded 'USB Device Not Recognized' error. Having just recently RMA'd my much loved TrackIR4 due to the same issue, I thought the thing was toast. Nevertheless I proceeded to google for articles and posts pertaining to the issue at hand, and found a number of possible solutions, including one that I had not seen before.
Following the instructions I went into the device manager, uninstalling every device under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers", thereafter selecting "Scan for hardware changes", also in the device manager. After everything was redetected and installed, I plugged the USB Stick audio player into one of the available USB ports on the computer and VOILA!. To my astonishment it had actually worked, and the device is now functioning properly. I do not know how permanent this fix will be, but I wanted to share my experience here so that others may not have to part with their beloved TrackIR for potentialy unecessary rma's. Please let me know if anyone is able to duplicate this procedure successfully, thank you.

Best Regards.

Yes, that is a good step to try. One of the steps is also to try the TrackIR unit on another system to isolate the issue between the TrackIR hardware, or system hardware/software.
