Using SmartNav with UFO: Extraterrestrials

Post by dkehler »

Hi,

I'm having a problem with my SmartNav within the game "UFO: Extraterrestrials".

The game seems to have its own internal mouse settings. With other games like this, I've been successful by changing the SmartNav settings to relative instead of absolute, but with this particular game, no matter what settings I use within the game in combination with different settings in the SmartNav, I can get the mouse pointer to move just fine, but the mouse cursor jumps around erratically whenever I click the left mouse button.

The game developers just released a patch that allows the game to be run in windowed mode, but this didn't fix the problem.

I have posted this problem on the game developer's forum, but I'm posting it here as well in case this is a bug in the SmartNav driver.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

What are you using to click with?

I'm using the ability switch (the one that looks like a small black puck, purchased with the SmartNav). It works perfectly fine pretty much everywhere else.

I have also tried left clicking by voice, and the same erratic jumping behavior happens.

The only other game that I've had to set the SmartNav to relative instead of absolute is Jardinains 2 (a breakout clone), and while the left mouse button is not used all that much in that game, I do think there are times when I seem to recall that the paddle would jump to one side or the other. This may or may not be related.

Edit: to clarify. The jumping behavior only happens when the left mouse button is clicked.

Do you have the SmartNAVAT model, with the dwell clicking software?

If so does it have the same issues in the game?

Yes, I just tried it with the dwell clicking software, and it seems to work with that okay. Very strange.

I would appreciate it though if you guys could download the Jardinains 2 free version and see if you can determine whether or not the paddle jumps within the game when you press the left mouse button with an ability switch. You will need to use relative mode, because the game "freezes" the paddle by design when it gets hit by obstacles.

Please keep me posted, but thanks for the workaround.
