errant left clicks ?

Post by tredwellpcb »

Hi

Using version 3.2 build 30 on Windows XP. I have Voice clicking installed and working but I notice sometimes it seems to issue left clicks when I don't want them. I have editted the .bnf file to redefine left click to be activated by simply "left".

<commands> = left:"LEFT_CLICK" |
down:"LEFT_DOWN" |
you:"LEFT_UP" |
right:"RIGHT_CLICK" |
right down:"RIGHT_DOWN" |
right up:"RIGHT_UP" |
middle click:"MIDDLE_CLICK" |
middle down:"MIDDLE_DOWN" |
middle up:"MIDDLE_UP" |
dub:"DOUBLE_CLICK" |
pause:"PAUSE" |
center:"CENTER" |
scroll:"SCROLL" |
enter:"ENTER" |
precision:"PRECISION" |
activate:"ACTIVATE".

Any ideas why I get these "stray" left clicks or left downs ? I am using a headset microphone.

I am still in 30 day eval period and not getting this fixed may cause me to send product back

It sounds like the software is detecting some noise or sound as the voice commands.

Does this occur, if you change them back to the default settigs?

If this suggestion works, but you would prefer the one-word command, left, I would suggest considering purchasing a high-quality noise canceling microphone like the Sennheiser that is sold at emicrophones.com.

Yes a new microphone may resolve the "extra" noise issue, if that is what is occuring......

Am testing with the default word recognition. Do you use voice recog with the hi quality mike ?

I would like to speak relatively softly and find that many times I have to speak the command twice to get recognition. Does the hi qual mike help this ?

thanks,
Phil

A higher quality, noise canceling mike, allows for the software to detect the commands only.

I'm using Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9.5 with the Sennheiser ME3, and you can talk relatively quietly with good accuracy.

Hi TredwellPCB,
I have the Sennheiser ME3 that is mentioned. Its a very fine mic. I also have exactly the problem you describe in your post. I did change the file to include LEFT. So it may be that. And maybe I need to change it back to check.

Also, sometimes I need to repeat the command twice. Very often, it just clicks by itself. It's fairly infuriating to have the cursor suddenly jump away because it hears my bashing on the keyboard as LEFT!
I am a reasonably experienced Dragon user. (V 7, 8,9). I have switched back to that. (Actually, I'm tinkering with the Vista Speech right now because the command control sounds like it could be cool. But more on that some other day.)
DNS software is much more sophisticated than IBM viavoice, I believe. But because its trying to do everything, it is a resource-hungry animal.

The only problem in doing it this way (using Vista Speech or DNS) is the delay between issuing a voice mouse command in DNS and getting the cursor back in Smartnav. That is, if you use a delay in the settings. Which you very nearly have to do if you ever want to be able to grab a mouse and do something with it without fighting with Smartnav for control.
There is a second problem, now I think about it. DNS and Vista also do dictation. So it listens to everything you say, and tries to turn all of it into something sensible. Otherwise you have to be quiet.
Don't know about you, but imagine this: The phone rings, and you look up at your screen, and see the selection suddenly disappear, and the words: HELLO BOB, overwrite it.
Then you key the mic to mute!
I'd think I'd like it if you could just put these things into COMMAND ONLY mode.

I'll be interested to hear if you get better results from restoring the LEFT CLICK command.
Cheers,
Tony

You can certainly force Dragon NaturallySpeaking into command mode only by saying "switch to command mode."

I think you can also accomplish the same thing by holding down a certain hotkey.
