SmartNav incompatible with Pro Tools??
SmartNav incompatible with Pro Tools??
Hello support et al:
I own the smartnav controller and i use my cap to move the mouse around and the keys are assigned to functions.
Well, the problem is, I also do audio and I recently purchased Pro Tools digi002R. When i open the software, the key functions CEASE to work!! it really sucks too, because i use this program the most.
Is there anything I can do to alleviate this problem and make my keys work with PT? Do the creators of smartnav know any known incompatiblities?
any help on this issue wld be much appreciated...
thanx

Re: SmartNav incompatible with Pro Tools??
Have you tried remapping the default hotkeys in the SmartNAV software to non-conflicting keys? i.e. Keys that ProTools does not use?
If the hotkeys work and do not conflict with other applications, it could be the case that Pro Tools is using a non-standard method to get keyboard input which is causing it to malfunction.
Please try re-mapping the keys in the SmartNAV software and let me know the result.
Thanks,
Kevin

Re: SmartNav incompatible with Pro Tools??
You should also make sure you download the most recent SmartNAV software (currently build 23)
http://media.naturalpoint.com/software/ ... 20.023.exe

Re: SmartNav incompatible with Pro Tools??
Okay..check this out. I opened Pro Tools after installing build 23 and i saw that the keys weren't working as usual. Then, i went into the smartnav control panel to change the hotkeys like you said..but for kicks, instead of using different keys at first..i just decided to re-initialize the ones i was already using. what do you know! it worked! once i closed the control panel and went back to Pro Tools..now my hotkeys were working! i can't believe i didn't think about trying this before.
So anyways, Pro Tools must do something with the keyboard when it starts up or something because no other software i have shuts down my hot keys like that when i open the programs. Just Pro Tools.
I wonder what Pro Tools does to the keyboard on opening??? Any ideas?
thanks for your help..
oh, btw, is there an automatic e-mail that can be sent from the smartnav site to let me know about updates? or do i just have to keep checking back? and if i have to keep checking back, where do i go to find the updates?

Re: SmartNav incompatible with Pro Tools??
Not sure what could be up with ProTools. After you 'reset' the hot keys and closed down the SmartNAV software, when you started the SmartNAV software again did you have to 'reset' them again to make them work?

Re: SmartNav incompatible with Pro Tools??
If I reset the Keys to letter keys, quit pro tools, and then restart, I don't have to reset the Keys at all!
However, if I set my Keys to function keys, such as control or Windows key, and then I opened the program, I had to reset.
I guess pro tools must initialize those keys when it starts up.
Yeah I would really love to sign on for the newsletter because I have about 10 million ideas floating around my head that would make SmartNav at its best! If you want some proactive feedback on how to make it better, let me know!
Thanks for the help
