Current Game: none

Post by gevers1 »

Hi, using FS9 with TrackIR4. TrackIR crashed on me mid-flight. Now when I restart TrackIR4, it says "current game : none" and FS9 wont respond to it anymore even though the unit is tracking and is active.

The workaround seems to be to restart FS9, but thats not really an option when you're flying on VATSIM.

Any fixes for this?

Jings, cant believe I'm the only person with this problem ...

For the info,

My TrackIR version is 4.1, build 30
Device info trackir PRO unit 64806
Version of software | 4.1.030

Not using a USB Hub, just straight in the back ports(!).

Running XP, fully SP'd. AMD Athlon x64 3700+, Sapphire Radeon X1950XTX, 3gb RAM.

I noticed that there's a thread about Active Sky and TrackIR. Now, I use Active Sky, but I'm not sure what the thread is about as it doesn't really explain what problem it fixes.

I dont use Active Camera (I use F1 View) and have the 'F1 View' dll installed in my modules section. Could that be something?

I hope someone can help - it's really frustrating to spend (read 'waste') the best part of an hour on a flight using trackIR only to lose it's functionality at the crucial stages.

The strange thing is that the unit is working again after restarting the software(in that the green light is on and the unit is tracking as it should) but FS9 is no longer picking up that TrackIR is attached. If I could figure out how to get FS9 to recognise TrackIR, my problems would be solved.

Cheers,

In the overwhelming absence of any replies (other than myself) to this post, I'll continue to reply to my own posts. I noticed the following in another thread

[color:"brown"] "Make sure you do not have exclusive loading of any profile turned on as that can block FS2004 from being detected."[/color]

I'll try this tonight to see if that's it, but does anyone at TrackIR have any other suggestions? Anyone? Otherwise it's back to the shop it goes!

Nope. They only remedy, if the software crashes in mid flight, is to retart the TrackIR software, then restart the flight.

If the TrackIR software is started after the gaming application, it doesn't recognize that the flight application is already running.

Does the software crash in a predictable manner?

Have you tried a clean install of the TrackIR software, so that it doesn't "crash", in mid flight?

I know, please accept my apologies for my grouchie-ness - I see you take the time to answer each query on this forum yourself!

I'll try and identify a pattern, and better yet, when it crashes again i'll get the error log. Perhaps that might give some clues.

Thinking about it now, I suspect it happens mostly when I move the unit about the monitor in order to get the optimum placement. Perhaps it's overloaded with tracking data and bombs out. But to be honest, I dont mind that it crashes so much, it's more the fact that I cant get FS9 to recognise the unit again. If we could fix that, that'd be great.

You could try increasing the "Set Priority" for the TrackIR software, within the Task Manager -> Processes Tab -> Right click on the TrackIR.exe file -> Set Priority to AboveNormal....

See if that helps.....

Vincent, I've been fine tuning the location of the unit and have managed to find a location that doesn't require me to move the unit about to much. I've had better stability for the last two days (ie no crashes during flight). I did notice however that looking left and right made the scenery 'stick' quite often (there is a thread on this i think so i'll check that out).

I also noticed a drop in fps every 3 minutes or so when TrackIR.exe would take up anywhere between 8-10% of the CPU. Is that normal?

Anyway, after this evenings flight, I shut down TrackIR from the menu, but the app hung. When I got the message about TrackIR not responding, i managed to capture the dump file that I've PM'd you. I hope that helps.

Make sure that Periodic news check is disabled within the TrackIR software.
