Hi,
I've just got my shiny new TrackIR 4 and TrackClip. I hooked up the clip's power tap and the trackIR module, hooked it all into the back of my PC on mainboard USB, loaded the latest installer off the net and after confirming the TrackIR driver can install (Not verified so you get to confirm it) I get the wonderful Blue Screen of Death.
I can see the software apparently installed (Though not fully, evidently) and can load it up with some profile errors. No device attached, though.
So, any thoughts?
BSOD on XP driver install?
Re: BSOD on XP driver install?
OK, have you tried moving USB ports?
What type of system are you running?
Do you have the latest chipset drivers, and motherboard bios installed?

Re: BSOD on XP driver install?
Yes, have tried both the ports on the back and a hub.
Mobo/chipset is up to date.
System is an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, 2GB of OCZ RAM, GeForce 8800GTS, Samsung 22" 226BW monitor @ 1680x1050, Samsung 15" SyncMaster 152v @ 1024x768 (Multimonitor setup), Windows XP Home, latest nVidia drivers (Forceware). Asus P5W DH Deluxe mainboard.
Other USB stuff: Samsung NV10 camera, Logitech G15 keyboard/hub, Logitech G5 mouse reciever, Belkin Nostromo n52 gamepad, Sidewinder Force Feedback joystick. No driver issues whatsoever.

Re: BSOD on XP driver install?
Can you try the unit on another system?
So it causes a BSOD, regardless of what USB port you are using on the system itself?
What type of hub?

Re: BSOD on XP driver install?
Now got it working by using a different mainboard USB port, reinstalling with the option for USB Drivers turned off, and then manually using Device Manager to install the driver. Which worked fine.
Considering that the device was unplugged in both instances and the crash was as installation of npusb.sys was occouring, I suspect the issue may lie within the installation program. The unit connecting or disconnecting never caused any issue. Hub was the Logitech G15 keyboard (Which has 2 USB ports built in as a hub).

Re: BSOD on XP driver install?
The keyboard hub, will not work at all, and will cause the system to crash....
Basiclly there are 2 reasons....
1 - The keyboard hub, is just a passive hub, it doesn't have an adequate powers supply to properly initialize the power requirements of the TrackIR unit.
2 - The reason that you see it crash, when it installed the drivers, is that the USB power is starting draw the full amount required for the TrackIR, when the system decides what type of hardware it is, and the drivers that it needs. This can overload a USB port, if it isn't up to full USB specs., or isn't adequately powered.

Re: BSOD on XP driver install?
I had BSODs when I plugged my new one in also, but I was going into a powered hub, when I went to the mainboard its fine, except that it tells me it should be on a faster USB, even though its on a USB 2.0 port, and the external hard drive that was in that port worked fine. Oh well now its off to learning how to use it.
Re: BSOD on XP driver install?
The 2.0 issue, is an error with some chipsets reading the unit incorrectly.
1 - Make sure that you have the latest motherboard bios installed.
2 - Make sure that all of the USB features are enabled in the bios itself.
