problems with smartnav

Post by kouneli »

I have installed smartnav in two computers and I face problems in both.
In the first the SmartNAV is installed correctly and works fine. However, the device gets very hot, which may be normal, but also causes my windows XP professional to crush with blue screens and various error messages. I did a clean install of Windows but the blue screens have not gone away. When I don't use the device I don't get any blue screens.

In the other computer I install the version of the software that comes with my CD and also the versions of the software that exists on your website before plugging in the device but when I plugged in the device it doesn't get recognized at all. It only appears as an unknown usb device.

OK, for both systems -

What are you plugging them into?

Are you using a USB hub, keyboard, or are you plugging directly into the system ports?

What version of Windows is each system running?

Have you tried turn off any kind of power save feature for your USB ports?

In the "Device Manager" you can right click the "USB Hub"(s), that show, and then select properties. On the power management tab, uncheck the box that allows the computer to turn off the USB port to save power (i.e. uncheck the box). Sometimes that has an impact on the connectivity of the devices.

Well, the problem with the blue screens turned out to be a known problem, as I saw on another part of the forum. The problem seems to be due to overusing the system USB port.it was fixed by using an external powered USB hub.

My other problem still remains. I'm using windows XP and no matter whether I am installing version 28 or 30 of smartnav software, when I plug in the device it is not recognized, but it is only seen as a generic USB device.at the driver look up after the plugging in, I tried to locate the drivers on the smartnav installation folder but they wouldn't be accepted. I also tried moving a file named npusb.sys to the Windows drivers folder, along with the other.sys files but that wouldn't help to the recognition of the device either.I tried using a system USB port and an external powered USB hub with no success. My windows XP installation is fully updated.
Please help me.

So the unit is now working fine on one system, but not on the other?

Do you have the latest motherboard bios, and chipset drivers installed?

Have you tried using the hub, on the second system?

Yes, exactly. On one PC it is not recognized as a smartnav, but only as a generic USB device.

Yes, I have made all updates on my bios, drivers and operating system. I don't have a problem with any other USB device on that computer.

Yes, same thing happens.
