I think my SmartNav base is on backwards!

Just received my new SmartNav for my Mac iBook G4 but I can't figure out how to attach it to my laptop without its "tail" hanging down in the middle of the screen.

When I look at the diagram in the online manual, it shows the tail pointing straight down with the SmartNav platform BEHIND the "T" shape, which would make sense.
But in real life when the SmartNav lens is facing me, it has that platform in FRONT of the "T".

What am I missing here?

The black pastic portion, on the base will rotate 360 degrees, so you can rotate it to the back....
