Luckily I read the manual all through before I tried to install TrackIR,as despite problems I got it running eventually, except it still will not operate with the supplied Ship Simulator demo. (Perhaps because the title listed is ship Simulator 2006). I'm posting this in case what I found may help others in similar cases. When the DVD auto-ran I got an error saying 'component CoolXPButton.ocx not correctly registered: a file missing or invalid.' The same thing happened when I double-clicked the DVD from within Explorer, or the TrackIRMenu.exe file Icon. The manual says to click the setup.exe but no such file is listed. In the end I ran the TrackIR.final.exe file and it installed without problems, and worked with FSX, but did nothing with the Ship Sim Demo. The manual makes no mention of Windows Vista, so I went to TrackIR.com and downloaded the latest update, v4.1.030 B(final), and installed it after uninstalling the previous version. However,it appears to be identical in all respects; the program, drivers, profiles and manual.
When I first ran TrackIR I had problems with the tracking working OK one way but falling over in the other. I finally traced this to reflections from my spectacles; turning off the room lights cured this and it operates just fine with FSX after altering the HotKeys. I set letter 'O' for Pause TrackIR, number '0' for Centre, and letter 'I' for Precision, as these go well with the FSX hotkey 'P' for Pause flight. javascript:void(0)
