Looking into TIR4

Post by MattNW »

I'm thinking about getting Track IR4. I tried downloading some of the demo videos but can't get any to play. The ones for FSX are in .avi format and it seems nothing I have will play that format. Windows Media Player V9 plays the audio only. I've tried updating WMP but it still won't play the video. Irfanview says it's missing a plug in but I can't find the plug in anywhere.

First of all is there a free player that I can play the FSX video on?

Also I didn't see any info on this. How well does TIR get along with FS2004 and are all the features listed on the TIR4 page available in FS2004?

How is the field of view? IE. can I see far enough to the side that I can see the runway to line up properly?

I'm a real world private pilot transitioning to computer for medical reasons. The hardest thing to get used to in a simulator is the locked straight ahead view. It's like having a bad case of tunnel vision. Hat switch doesn't help much because it's hard to find center once you move the view.

Have you tried updating you version of Windows media player to 10/11?

The TrackIR 4, has full 6DOF support in FS2004.

The filed of view, of the camera itself is 45 degrees. Your head movement itself is applified, so that a small head movement, causes a larger movement on-screen. In most cockpits, you can rotate your head 180 degrees, in game.
