Problems after Upgrading to XP

Post by Zog »

Hi folks,

After several years of wonderful, trouble-free service from my little smartnav, its now all bad. I upgraded my computer from win ME to XP home, everything went great, except for Smartnav. Windows claims that it has no driver, if I install the driver, it claims it is not connected to the computer. I've tried un-installing, re-installing from CD, downloading the drivers from the website, nothing.
I unplug the smartnav, install, plug in, windows thinks I'm adding a new device, it finds the software, claims it installed, but then claims the device is not configured correctly. If I start the software, it first claims it can not find a file, then the device is not connected. Software loads, but no tracking. I unplug the device, plug it back in, and we start over.

I have an older model, serial #009882, and my CD has version 2.14.
IS there a specific version I should be installing? Is my model just to old for win XP home? Help!

Well, something worked. Problem solved, and I'm now happily hands free again.

If only I knew how I fixed it....

Basically, I think all of my attempts finally got the install files to places where XP could find them automatically, and handle everything itself, because that is what it eventually did. One reboot gave me 'new hardware, firmware loader', which I had seen before, and then 'new hardware, smartnav device something', which I hadn't seen - and after that it worked fine. *Shrug*
