TFT/Monitors

Post by Squitters »

Hi folks,

Using TrackIR/Pro clip / FS9.

Thinking on replacing my old CRT with a LCD/TFT monitor, I note they speak of 'response time' 5ms-8ms etc. Does this mean there could be a visual delay or 'tearing' of the image when panning your head around in game...?

thanks for any thoughts.

cheers,

I am using TrackIR & Track Clip Pro with FS X on a vista PC with an LCD Monitor and FS 2002 on an XP +SP2 Laptop with a 15" TFT screen. Both give dead smooth panning with TRIR, if anything the TFT is better; but then it runs at 44+ FPS, whereas FS X with Acceleration added has dropped the FPS back from the 35 I had with FS SP1 to less than 25. ( The Vista PC has a performance rating of 4.1, with 2GB of DDR2 Ram being the limiting factor.)
The only noticeable visual delay is that caused by any null zone set in the profile you select.
If your eyes can detect an 8 milli-second delay you are in the class of Lewis Hamilton. !! Bogan, with Glasses.

"Thinking on replacing my old CRT with a LCD/TFT monitor, I note they speak of 'response time' 5ms-8ms"

The type of monitor you use, LCD or CRT will have no effect on the preformance of Trackir. "Response time" in regards to LCD monitors is the amount of time the LCD will refresh in order to draw a pixel. Slow reponse times will cause ghosting and blurrs with fast images. So for exapmle when you turn your head quickly using Trackir in a flight sim, as the canopy frame moves across the monitor it leaves behind a trail (ghosting). CRTs do not have this problem.

Also note that different manufactures use different methods for measuring repsonse time on their LCDs so use your eyes to review the Monitor before purchase and don't just go with the spec listed.

Cheers
