More problems with FSX

Post by Orbit »

I am using FSX with Vista 32. Track IR 4 Pro with clip had generally been working fine, but then got "jumpy" and ultimately caused FSX to lock up - that is screen stays still and no keyboard or controller response.

I did a complete reinstall of FSX, SP1, and then Acceleration, and now FSX seems to work but Track IR will not recognize FSX- no blue light. Three greens track fine, but no response in FSX.

I tried deleting SimConnect file as described in other threads here and then running FSX repair utility - that just caused FSX to crash and could not run FSX at all - so did complete remove, followed by stepwise reinstall and that is where I am now.

Track IR once worked great on my system - please help me bring it back to life!

thanks!

Also, it appears that I am now missing the following folder:

C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.60905.0_x-ww_429211e9

I initially deleted it, trying to follow the instructions here, and then tried to run the repair utility, but the folder did not reinstall. I tried using the SimConnect install utility in the SDK (using FSX deluxe), but no luck there. Seems I am stuck without a config folder and file.

any help getting me back in the cockpit would be greatly appreaciated!

thanks!!

One more thought- I tried simply creating the above folder, with the idea that I could copy the simconnect file into it ( a copy of which I think remains in the SDK) but blasted Vista says I don't have permission. I tried with UAC both on and off - no difference.

tried reinstalling everything, deleting folders etc..., but no luck - please help!

ok, I'll stop answering my own posts now, but I was able to restore a copy of 2 Windows folders from a previous backup. Not sure if that did the trick, but also temporarily installed FSUIPC which I read could help restore the simconnect file integriity and then Track IR came back, with blue light and all!

However, I am getting unaccepable lag - which has been a chronic problem for this great product. I tried removing FSUIPC but that did not help. Trak IR will work smoothly for a few seconds and then SO laggy to the point that cannot be used. I tried reinstall, as well as change process priority as suggested in other threads. Plugged USB directly into computer (avoiding hub and power issues). Still laggy.

thoughts? All help appreciated!

looking at the tracking screen, what do you see here?

Any firewall/antivirus software installed?

Hi Vincent,

I've followed many of your threads here, so thanks in advance for your response.

The tracking screen shows 3 green, and tracks smoothly, so seems to be a problem with FSX.

I do have McAfee, but 1) turned it off and problems still there, also 2) did allow Track IR and FSX in program permissions,
BTW: also turned off windows firewall

thing is, when it works, it works GREAT intermittently, usually for 10-20 seconds, maybe a minute or so, and then gets laggy

more thoughts?

For troubleshooting, I would uninstall McAfee, try running FSX, and see if it has the same issue, then reinstall the McAfee....

ok, in my preliminary tests, uninstalling McAfee does seem to improve the lag - need to experiment some more, but assuming that is the case, any suggestions on how to change settings so that TrackIR will function properly. It is not really practical to remove McAfee every time I want to fire up FSX, and it is not prudent to NOT have a firewall, especially if one wants to fly online - Vatsim, etc... (or in this case, reading TrackIR forum...)

I have previously set TrackIR, FSX, and SimConnect as permitted programs - any practical way you know of to have both McAfee and TrackIR?

thanks!

Try and limit the settings that the McAfee software might have in regards to TCP/IP settings, as that is what FSX uses to talk with simconnect and simconnect uses to allow us to work........

do you have any Track IR specific information (or FSX) such as ports, or other settings to adjust? The more specific the better (I realize you are not McAfee or FSX support, but as there is not a
"limit the settings" option, the more details the better.)

thanks!!
