TIR 4 FSX SP2 on Vista Ultimate was not Working

I had my TrackIR 4 installed and working on my orginal install of FSX it also worked fine after SP1 was installed. I had stopped using the TrackIR. I installed FSX Acceleration which upgrades FSX to SP2. After the Acceleration install, I still was not using the TrackIR.

Last week I decided to come back to the TrackIR and could not get it to function with FSX what so ever. Tracking appeared to be working fine per the TrackIR software however the TrackIR software would not detect that FSX was runnning (no blue LED).

I spent alot of time reading post after post in NaturalPoint forums and at AVSIM trying to correct the issue. In no way was I ready to delete my FSX install and start from scratch again.

Unfortunately none of the "soultuions" suggested were working for me and I had reached the point where I was going to attempt a full reinstall. Then I started to think about some of the issues I had experienced with Vista and UAC and decided to try something as a last ditch effort.

I checked Run as Adminstrator for both FSX and TrackIR and all is now working well. Not sure why it works but I have verfied that it indeed works. If I uncheck the Run as Adminstrator checkbox for TrackIR it WILL NOT detect FSX. If I check the Run as Adminstrator checkbox for TrackIR all is well.

I'm posting this in hopes that this may save others the many headaches I experienced trying to solve the issue.

Well, you do have to have both the FSX software, and the TrackIR software running at the same permission level.....
