SmartNav gaming
SmartNav gaming
I posted previously about my problem of gaming without the autopan feature with the SmartNav. I was told an update to the Trackir software would address this problem. I installed the update but there are still problems. One problem is the inability to assign hotkeys for left and right click. Also, I really need the ability to use the SmartNav with any game. I understand that incorporating these features in the Trackir would allow people the buy the cheaper Trackir and get the benefits of the SmartNav features. Here is my thought. It would seem the giving SmartNav the auto pan feature, as far as the
x-axis is concerned, would solve this problem. Also, if the SmartNav had this feature it would give the ability to have left and right click but only with SmartNav. I'm sure this would be very helpful to other disabled people who enjoy gaming. Other than this minor issue, SmartNav is a great product.

Re: SmartNav gaming
I guess I will be sending my SmartNav back due to the lack of support. I bought this because I have no ability to use a mouse. The Trackir software necessitates using a mouse to click items on the main menu in games, simply because there is no ability to assign hotkeys for left and right click. I do not understand why adding the auto pan feature to the SmartNav is such a problem. With the expensive SmartNav this is unacceptable to have these problems. I am an avid PC gamer and this issue is causing me major problems. Ignoring this problem is not going to make the problem go away.
Re: SmartNav gaming
It is something that we can look at adding to a future version of the software.
Have you looked at switching between relative and absolute modes with the SmartNAV software?

Re: SmartNav gaming
Absolute does not work. Future version? Are you kidding? I'm sending this piece of crap back.
Re: SmartNav gaming
This is great I can go to vista because you stopped support for the Trackir 2. Trackir 2 will not work with vista. If I switch to vista I can no longer play computer games. I need to go to vista for my job. Auto pan is not that difficult to add. Send me the SDK if this is such a problem.
Re: SmartNav gaming
Apparently the SmartNav 4 is the only hardware I can buy that works well and is cheap enough for my purposes. I used to use the Trackir 2 for navigating around in windows and for gaming. At least the Trackir 2 allowed me to have hotkeys for left and right click, and auto pan. I noticed with the new Trackir software I can not move the cursor around in windows. I wrote a small program to run at the same time I run the Trackir software so I could assign hotkeys for left and right click. Only problem is that as soon as I click outside of the Trackir application mouse emulation stops. I really need auto pan in the SmartNav software. With my limited ability to use my hands using the Trackir software makes gaming impossible for me. Please add auto pan to the SmartNav soon.
Re: SmartNav gaming
What is auto pan anyway?
For left and right clicking, you could use something like the Swifty along with your choice of ability switches to allow clicking independent of the SmartNav or Trackir software.

Hello:
We appricate your feedback on the SmartNav, and we are more than happy to add your request to our pending feature list. Please note that this can take time, as the developers have many projects in the cue. We enjoy customer feedback, and use it as a way to make the products better.
Absolute Mode does "work" nicely, for what it is intended for, and is a stand out feature for cursor control.
AutoPanning creates two zones at the left and right hand edges of the monitor and when the cursor reaches these zones, the software will continue to send cursor movment in the same direction, even though the edge of the physical screen has been reached. This can be useful for gaming.
We have put a lot of work into making SmartNav the best product it can be, and it meets the needs of most all customers, clearly it met yours before you decided that Autopanning is a must have feature. TrackIR is intended for gaming, and it does a great job at that. If you choose to return the product, we can issue you an RMA.

Re: SmartNav gaming
Unfortunetly for my job I will have to switch to microsoft vista since my employer plans on upgrading to software that will only run on vista. Seeing as I work from home, have only one computer, and the Trackir 2 will not work on vista I guess I'm am just stuck without gaming. At least until there is a new version of the SmartNav software that supports auto pan. Undoubtly the Trackir 4 works well in games as long as one could use a mouse. As an engineer I understand how one may strive to create a perfect product, but ultimetly customer feedback may be needed to help improve that product. As long as you plan on adding the feature in the future I will be happy.
Re: SmartNav gaming
Have you tried running the 3.13 software in a Windows compatability mode, within Windows Vista? We tested it in Vista 32 and it appeared to work besides some registry warnings.
