I would like to know some stuff

Post by Sikokoko »

Hi,

I would like to know if in the built-in software, is there some commpensation for radial and tangential distorsion. One of your partners told me that it is the case. But, I don't think that it's done because you should make some test to find the parametres for each camera you build. And in your SDK there is no options to change the parametres and you have to change them each time you change the lens. Moreover, you sell some special lens with low distorsion. So, could you tell me more, please ?

Thanks,

Hello:

The lens distortion correction occurs with the camera calibration software, on the PC side, when you run the Tracking Tools, or Arena. So, the lenses are de-distorted every time you calibrate the system, in software.

The 4.5mm Low Distortion lens is a high quality lens with very low distortion, less than 1.5%. This can be useful if you don't want to correct for distortion, and also makes for good software corrections as well.

Thanks for the answer,
Just want to know something more,
in the SDK, is it possible to use a function to give to the camera the distortions parametres ?
When I calibrate the camera with tracking tools, is it the built-in software which de-distorde the picture or is it the software you developped in the computer ?

Thanks

To make sure this is clear, lens distortion is only detected and corrected when using the Tracking Toolkits (rigid body / point cloud) and Arena software. The baseline SDK does not have this capability.

The distortion correction occurs in the PC software, it is not possible to load custom distortion parameters.

If distortion correction was required for the 2D tracking data from the free baseline SDK, there are a lot of resources and free toolkits online that could probably be used to write your own software to do this for the cameras.
