I have my passive suit done and I'm going to build an active led suit. A few questions. If i use the IR LEDS from your website can you tell me, do i need to put them into a ball or something to to spread the IR? Do they need to be placed on a stem above the body so they are better seen by the cameras? Do I then turn off the IR on the cameras? Thanks in advance.

Active marker suit
Re: Active marker suit
The LEDs we sell are very wide angle, about 180 degrees. You do not need to put a diffusing ball on them. I think you should be able to mount them directly to a PCB, perhaps with no stand off. Yes, turn off the IR LEDs on the cameras, there is a checkbox for that.
We have not used active LEDs with a full body motion capture suit before, we use just the passive markers, so we can't offer too much guidance on this one. I do think it should work, and we will be very interested to see the results.

Re: Active marker suit
What do you think about capturing of horse animations with IR LEDs?
What range between cameras could be achieved with IR LEDs?

Re: Active marker suit
Hmm, horse animations? I would probably use much larger passive markers, like 3/4" or 1" balls. You can increase your range with the use of larger markers.
The problem with active LEDs is that they tend to be a point source when you have them at a distance from the camera, so they are visible a ways out, say 25' with a V100, but they are only a few pixels, so not very accurate. Better is a larger marker, so it has more pixels to track.
Also, ARENA is setup for human skeletons, if you want to track anything else, it would have to be just rigid bodies. Maybe we can do a horse skeleton in the future.

Thanks Jim,
As soon as I get it done I'll slide you some pictures and video your way. As always thanks for the info!
