Computer is unable to detect track ir!

Post by Corrvan »

Hey there, When i plug in my track ir, it just doesn't do anything. Doesnt pop up saying anything is plugged in. Nothing new in device manager either.

There is a blue light on it that flashes once in a while though.

Saw this in another thread, will fill in the information.

My system is as follows:
Windows vista x64 with SP1.
Xfx 790i ultra SLI mobo
4gigs corsair XMS3 1333mhz ram
core 2 quad Q9450 (2.6ghz)
Soundblaster X-FI fatal1ty
2x 250 gig seagate 7200rpm HDD in a stripe raid
XFX 8800 GTX
am i missing anything?

Please send the following information to support:

What is the Serial # of the device?
It should be located on the end of the cable, near the USB plug, or on the underside of the device.

xxxxxxxx. Thats a tag near the USB plug.

Could you send us a copy of the Setupapi.log file?
It should be located in the C:\Windows folder

the setupapi.log i have just said "setupapi has changed, new location d:\windows\inf, however i have no d drive. I looked in c:\windows\inf, and found a setupapi.app, .dev, .ev1 .ev2 and .ev3. Which should i send, and how do i sent it? I cant find any attatchment sort of thing on this forum window.

Have you tried the device on another system?
yes, two others and a laptop. None can detect it. All give the flashing blue light on the device though.

Are you plugging in directly to the system, or are you using a hub?

Directly into the system. have tried plugging it in on its own in all the usb ports in each computer.

Have you tried isolating the device on the USB ports?

see above!

Have you tried turn off any kind of power save feature for your USB ports?
yes, as far as i know, especialy on the computers all power saving things are off that i can find.

In the "Device Manager" you can right click the "USB Root Hub"(s), that show, and then select properties. On the power management tab, uncheck the box that allows the computer to turn off the USB port to save power (i.e. uncheck the box). Sometimes that has an impact on the connectivity of the devices.

There was no checkbox like that in my device manager.

Could you attach a screen shot of your Device Manager (showing USB), and tracking screen (TrackIR software -> View -> Tracking)?

Hope thats all you need. How do i post those setupapi things? :)
or did you just want me to post the contents on here.

Hope it can be fixed! =) thankyou for your time.

If you have tried it on 3 other systems, I would look at it being a hardware failure of some kind, and would recommend contacting the place of purchase for a replacement unit
