TrackIR camera "dies" after a short while

Post by Hoggbert »

Hi.

Recently ordered and received a track Ir 4.
I followed the instructions and installed the software first before plugging the camera in.

So far so good, I take a look at the tracking function in the software and see the reflections from the headset clearly for about two minutes (+/-) then suddenly the green light on the cam turns itself off, the reflections on the tracking function goes away.

There's nothing i can do to get the camera up and running again unless i unplug it and insert it again (directly into a pc usb port, no hubs or extensions)then it'll work for a couple of minutes again, before it repeats itself.

I tried the cam on another computer to double-check if my venerable computer have gone bonkers, but i get the same kind of error there as well.

Is there a cure for this? (beyond the obvious return and get a new one from the dealer)

Thanks in advance

You can make sure you have the latest motherboard chipset drivers installed.

Have you tried turn off any kind of power save feature for your USB ports?

In the "Device Manager" you can right click the "USB Root Hub"(s), that show, and then select properties. On the power management tab, uncheck the box that allows the computer to turn off the USB port to save power (i.e. uncheck the box). Sometimes that has an impact on the connectivity of the devices.

Also, you can try using a USB hub, that has it's own power supply.

Sounds like the hardware may have failed, depending on were you purchased, I would suggest the Place of Purchase for replacement.
