No other system readily available to try for comparison.

Works fine in FS9.

Thing is, when it works in FSX, it tracks fine with good frame-rates (I usually keep it at 20-30 FPS), but then all the sudden gets "glitchy" and sputters... if I only could only identify the source, would be great

here are some factors that seem to help

1) limit FPS to 24
2)load FSX, FIRST, then run TrackIR - this seems to make a big difference

3)have experimented with Windows XP compatability mode (running Vista 32)- not sure if this makes a difference, but seems to have better luck

4) seem to have better luck with DirectX 10, with latest NVIDIA drivers

With these factors, lagginess is less and works pretty well until FSX just simply freezes up - that is sound continues, screen does not move, and controls do not respond

thoughts?

spent several hours trying to get to work - still no joy - I'm about to give up on TrackIR for FSX and just wait for FS11

extremely frustrated and disappointed :(

Running both the TrackIR software, and FSX as an admin?

does other applications have the same issue?

sorry to vent above, but answer continues to elude me

running as admin, but have UAC turned off, so should not be an issue (if I understand correctly)

works ok with FS2004, the only other application I would use TIR with.

should directX setting, or filtering setting - under FSX graphics options (anisometropic vs bilinear for example ) have any effect?

again what's maddening is that will work fine one moment and then get laggy or freeze at random times.

sometimes when I pause TIR (yellow light) FSX will stabilize and then when turn TIR back on -gets goofy again - any clues there?

When TrackIR is running how much of the system resources is it using?

did a quick test in which I uninstalled McAfee firewall and seemed to run better. Didn't have time for thorough test. Problem is, it doesn't make sense to go without a firewall. Before the latest TIR driver came out, I went through about 10 firewall programs and nothing helped. Before I go down that path again, are you aware of any firewall programs that are compatible with TIR,Vista and FSX?

(will need to check system resources question above)

thanks!

As far as firewall software goes, we use the one built into Windows itself. In regtards to firewall/antivirus software and TCP/IP. What generally happens, or the issue boils down to is that the firewall/antivirus application is running the TCP/IP protocol thru the 3rd party application even if it is stopped.

In that vain, here is some info pulled from Microsoft's website -
Many new Flight Simulator add-on products connect to Flight Simulator X (FSX) via the new SimConnect Application Programming Interface (API). When you run FSX with an add-on installed, some non-Microsoft firewall and antivirus applications (such as ZoneAlarm) may detect that FSX is attempting to make a network connection and display a dialog asking you to allow or block this connection.

This network connection is necessary for the add-on to connect with FSX. Its a local connection between the add-on and FSX (via a network localhost/127.0.0.1 connection), and does not involve a connection to the Internet. Be assured: FSX is not trying to send personal data about you through the Internet.

Note that Microsoft Windows Firewall will not exhibit this behavior. It will, however, alert you if an add-on is actually trying to access the Internet.

In order for your FSX add-on to work properly with FSX you MUST allow this connection to be made. If you do not allow the connection to be made, the add-on you are trying to run (and all subsequent add-ons that connect to FSX through the SimConnect API) will not work properly.

Some non-Microsoft firewall and antivirus applications will block this "localhost" connection between an add-on and FSX automatically, without any notification. In this case, you must configure the firewall or antivirus application to include both FSX and the add-on (specifically, the fsx.exe file and the add-on's .exe file, if it has one) in the list of trusted exceptions. If this is not done, the add-on will not work properly with FSX. Please refer to the documentation for your specific firewall or antivirus application for details on how to add programs to the list of trusted exceptions.

I don't mind using the Windows firewall, but it seems careless not to have an anti-virus program.

I can't believe I'm the only one with this problem.

Is there no way to run Track IR with FSX and still have anti-virus protection?
