Tir4 + TrackClip Pro jerky panning

Post by axelb9 »

Hello,

I am a new TrackIr 4 Pro user and I also bought and installed the TrackClip pro as well. While I can say that the unit works more or less and I am able to use it I cannot say at this point that I am overwhelmed. The reason is that I find panning using the TrackIR unit a lot jerkier in FS9 than the same using the joystick hatswitch. I have a good system (Core 2 Duo 2.4 and a GTX 8800 video card with 2 Gig RAM) that is runninf Fs9 very smoothly in general (FPS is around 75 most of the time) and panning in VC view using the hatswitch is silky smooth. However with the TrackIR panning is rather jerky with tiny microstutters - definitely not smooth.

I read a lot of mails but I could not find a definitive answer and I would like to know what one could expect from this unit? Can I expect that VC panning has the same smooth quality to it as the hatswitch or TrackIR usage is inherently a jerky exercise. To be honest I do not really like it this way - and I feel that there should be some system settings issue to make it smoother especially that FPS still stays arohnd 75 even while the jerky panning is going on with TrackIR.

I tried a few tricks such as increasing smoothness to 100, giving trackir a higher priority but there was no real improvement. When I check the tracking the heads are silky smooth and on the tracking screen I see nothing other than the 3 green dots of the trackclip pro. I use no firewall or virus protection.

I appreciate your help - I want to be a happy user just as everybody else seems to be.

Thanks,

Alex,

The movement should be just as smooth.

Do you have any add-on applications installed for FS2004?

Please list

Nothing other than rackir that is running parallel to fs9.

Inside Fs9 I have Instant Scenery, GePro, Fs genesis Landclass, a few freeware addon sceneries (but I tested the unit outside those areas too) - so nothing special.

Eventually I would wanna throw FsHotsFx, Fs passengers and Active Sky at it as well.

Somewhere I tread about some .cfg changes that might help - I have not tried those either as I have not found what to change specifically in fs9.

Thank you for your assistance,

Alex

I'm not aware of a cfg file to help with jerkiness.

Do any of the add-on application have a head latency setting?

I am not sure what you mean by that - these are basic scenery enhancement add-ons. They enhance mesh and scenery textures - nothing more nothing less.

Thx

Alex

By .cfg changes I meant some adjustments in fs9.cfg or somewhere else maybe?

Nothing from us.

No cockpit or general view add-ons?

No. No active camera - nothing like that. And it is bloody annoying too.

My suspect is some Nvidia setting - vsync or something else. Mine is set to forc on though and I would think that is OK.

Any ideas? Joystick panning is smoother than smooth while Trackir is jerky, stuttery - definitely not nice.

As I said I have an nvidia 8800 GTS with 768 Mb vido RAM.

Some times it is best to have Use Vsync as 'application controled' in the drivers panel and then to set the Vsync as on in the game.

There are times when the driver forcing something like vsync or FSAA can have strange effects in-game.

Ok I verified vsynch is not the issue here - I tried both ways: the result is the same.

Please help me as we are running in circles I am afraid. The key here is that hatswitch panning is supersmooth while trackir panning is jerky jittery. What is the difference? You confirmed before that it should be of the same quality. Has such thing never happened before to any other customer?

Thank you for helping me,

Can you try using one of the sample applications, and see if it is having the same issues there?
