Tracking a skeletal puppet

Post by curly01 »

Is it possible to make a skeletal doll and do realtime mocap of the relative rotational positions of the joints in a 3D program? It would be nice to have some sort of skeletal doll and just pose this doll and capture the rotation of the joints so you could pose your 3D character by posing the doll. That would be a more natural way of posing your character instead of clicking and dragging with the mouse and the keyboard. You could actually puppeteer your 3D character. Is that possible. Most 3D software accept joystick and mouse movement input on the motion tracks.

Are you looking for a stop-motion type of capture?

Something like that, yes. It could help animators. Kind of like instead of posing clay puppet dolls, posing your characterskeleton and capturing the positions. It would be great for the upper body motion. (Lower body uses IK and the position changes when your character walks.)

Yes kind of like posing your skeleton character instead of your clay model. Only the upper body would be usefull. The lower body uses IK.

Something like this is also cool for animators. If that would be in Arena, It would be cool.
