"more markers" in the works for the Optitrack system?

Post by dtaylor112 »

I understand that camera positions and lighting conditions are necessary for optimal accuracy... but what about more markers? Seems like more accurate captures can be made with more markers...

I was bumping around and came across this: (http://www.artinstitutes.edu/upload/los ... it%202.jpg)

Something tells me with that many markers the cameras stand less of a chance losing an arm, leg or torso!

Am I wrong? Just wanted to throw that one out there... seems like it would help.

Hm... so I'm guessing more markers wouldn't work. Interesting.

Yes you can assign more markers in addition to our normal 34 or 38 marker setup. Please see this thread for more detail:

However more markers does not always mean better tracking. Attaching more than 6 markers on a bone might slow down or confuse tracking algorithm.

Next version of Arena will export unlabeled markers in C3D file, you can label them manually for example in motionbuilder. That way attaching more makers will benefit the final motion.
