TrackIR-WiFi (wireless)

Post by AV8R »

I would like to see some of these ideas considered in future TIR models:

1. WiFi
Wireless TIR so that we are freed from the cable.

2. Serial, IR, Firewire, Midi, Gameport interfacing
optionally allow the TIR to interace through another port type. This might free the TIR from the USB interface issues that many are seeing.

3. Auto Centering (return to center)
Often while flying, I must spend the time to recenter the TIR to the forward view with F12. Some kind of alogrithm with user customization controls could make this a more semi-automated process. Like have the user preset the "center" coordinates before they enter the game, so that for each game profile (and sim cockpit) the TIR knows where the center point is.

4. Auto Updater
How about having the ECT software automatcially check for updates and profiles from N.P. profile library. Put filters and options in the software to allow the user to select what types and when they want the updating cycle to occur.

I don't see that WiFi is needed - until we have wireless monitors (anyone using an airpanel?) then the TrackIR is a fixed unit. A longer USB cable would be nice though.

Serial, IR and Gameport/Midi connections would really be a bit pointless even if they were fast/versatile enough. Firewire would be an idea but since we're still at USB1.1 only requirement then the extra speed is not required. If it was then USB2 is there.

Your head should be doing the centering, that's the whole point of the TrackIR.

Auto Updater is a good idea though linked with a list of up to date track files perhaps.
