TrackIR 4 Pro stopped working..

I've had a trackIR 4 since they were introduced and used it for literally hundreds if not thousands of hours without problems. After some hard use it would occasionally not come on propely when the software ran..and if I disconnected the USB and replugged it the problem usually resaolved itself. I had not used it for a couple of months and tried to use it last night without success. The device is detected in XP..the drivers will install as required, the software runs, however the software shows no tracking input from the device and the lights stay amber and the blue light flickers a bit but does not come on fully then goes dark and the 4 IR lights don't show at all. I tried to connect it to all of the USB ports with similar results. Occasionally when I plug it into a new USB port the top light goes solid green and stays green even with the software NOT running and no input is received by the software.

I've tried clean installs of the software and drivers, I've tried every USB port I have, I installed it on a laptop running vista with the latest software and the symptoms were the same. I had it quite a while and I know it used to run VERY hot so I'm guessing it may have just had a hardware failure?

I'm running it on an Intel 975X Badaxe2 mobo with WinXP. I know it draws a lot of juice for USB, and I have a Logitec G15 which also draws a lot..but they worked fine for a long time so I'm not sure what to check next.

Well trying it on more than one system, is going to lean towards some type of hardware failure.
