Hi,
First of all, I have had the TrackIR working. However, it know crashes with the atikmdag.dll error (Display Driver has recovered and restarted). This started happening when ATI Cat9.6 came out and IR5 Beta4 driver came out and Vista (x64) SP2 came out.
I tried everything from completely wiping all ATI and TrackIR from my PC (appdata, registry, etc), reinstalled and it won't even launch now. I've tried doing the same process but using old Drivers for both and it still happens, except when I run old ATI Drivers with the IR4 software only, then it works but only to the point of launching and letting me configure what you can with the IR4 software and then it crashes when I launch the sim.
I only Race with rFactor and Fly on FSX.
My machine is:-
i7 @ 3.8Ghz
4870 x2
Cross-fired with another 4870 x2
6Gb DDR3 RAM
1200w PSU
1 x 52"LCD
1 x 37"LCD
I'm fairly handy with a PC & Software, but I'm stumped with this one. I even wondered if it was something to do with the Duel Monitor set up. So I've tried disconnecting the other monitor and going through the whole process again for new and old drivers and still the same problem.
Until something gets sorted or released, or someone has an answer, I've got a 150 piece of Hardware that's useless!!!
I can't understand why going back to Beta3 and an older ATI driver doesn't work as it did before. Unless it's because of Vista SP2?? and the possibility that the Old and New Software isn't updated or compatible yet for the TrackIR 5??
Any Idea's? I'd be Grateful.
Thanks,
Wizz.
IR 5 won't install, getting atikmdag error, Is it SP2?

So this is a Vista 64-bit OS?
Are you runinng the video card software as well?
Can you send us a copy of the trdb.log file created in the TrackIR folder?
latest version of Direct X installed?

Hi Vincent.
First of all, thank you for your response.
Yes it is a Vista x64 OS.
I do run the ATI Video Card Software (as in the drivers).
I have DirectX 10 installed or possibly 10.1 from the ATI Cards, however my system config only says DirectX 10.
I cannot find a trdb.log file in the TrackIR Folder, unless it's the Installlog.txt file??
Everything worked fine with the 5 Beta 03 Software and ATI Catalyst 9.5, ATI Cat 9.6 came out at the same time as Vista SP2 and the Beta 04 of your software. Perhaps I shouldn't have installed them all, but I reckoned your and ATI's software was to be compatible with Vista SP2 (as they all came out with in a few days of each other).
The fact that completely un-installing all of the software from the "C" Drive Program Files(x86) and Appdata, then reinstalling almost every combination of TrackIR ver 5 Beta 03 and ATI Cat 9.1, 9.2, 9.3, 9.4 and 9.5 has not worked either. This is what is leading me to think it's a Vista SP2 issue. I have also tried the TrackIR ver 4 final software as well and combinations of both, with no joy (do I need to have the Ver 4 Final installed as well as the ver 5 beta, as I've only got the ver 5 beta installed now?).
I know that the atikmdag driver failure and recovery is to do with an ATI piece of software, but it ONLY happens when I try and launch my TrackIR 5?
The only other thing that is different is I hooked up my second Display only a day or two earlier, but this hadn't caused any problems for the day or two.
Let me know about the trdb.log file and I will happily try to work with you to solve this problem as the TrackIR 5 is very impressive and I don't want to loose the use of it.
Thanks,
Wizz.
