Installation issues - files can't extract?

Post by Geezuz »

Hi, just got my TrackIR 5, and of course, no software came with it. so I downloaded the TrackIR_4.1.037.Final.B file, but when I try to run it I eventually get an error message telling me there was a server error with extracting of files?

this is on vista 64-bit.

any help would be appreciated.

So I have tried 4.1.037, 4.1.036 and the latest beta. The result is always the same - after three bars in the progress bar the installation fails with "Error extracting support files: server execution failed".

I am at my wits end.

I'm having the same problem. I know it's not the exe setup file becaue my previous version used to install fine too. I recently installed an update for Vista 64 for a GoFlight program that couldn't view the help files. It was called Windows6.0-KB917607-x64.msu. I'm wondering if this update caused the problem. I wish I knew how to uninstall it to test this theory.

It wasn't the update. I uninstalled it. I'm at a loss as to what the problem is. I'm running 64-bit Vista. I think this problem happened as a result of installing the latest version over the previous beta. When I installed, it uninstalled the beta version and left things a little wonky.

well...perhaps you're onto something here. I installed this program and it seems to have installed, but there isn't a shortcut to launch the program as it claims there would be and I have no idea where this program installed to, so I can't launch it to update anything.

Actually, after further investigation, I don't think I want this program on my computer. It doesn't seem to have installed properly anyway. I don't think this solution is going to be an option for me. I have a feeling this little install is going to come back an haunt me.

Here's the one that solved it for me. Go to the following link then go to the section that reads as I have pasted in.

Solultion to Vista 64-bit Install issue

If the file version number starts with 6:

Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\engine from the machine.
Download IkernelUpdate.exe.
Once downloaded, double-click it. This installs the InstallShield engine for your installation.
